Aluminum has never failed me yet, and I've got a lot of it. If your weapon likes aluminum then only reason to buy brass is reloading. So if you're stocking up for shtf then aluminum is good. Go for it.Last edited by Baeleron; 08-03-2015, 8:26 PM.Comment

Online when it's on sale.
Natchez, Midway, etc.I tip 20% for average service.Comment

In a SHTF scenario the brass cases can be traded or sold to someone who reloads, that way there's no waste.Comment

Nothing wrong with Tula or Brown Bear. I would much rather have 1000 rounds of that over 200 of your "quality"(?) rounds when shtf.
OP, there is absolutely nothing wrong with aluminium cases ammo besides the inability to reload it. But it cheap and stack it deep. Best and cheapest way is online and in case lots.Comment

While I prefer to shoot brass cased because I reload, do not think there is anything inherently wrong with steel or aluminum case ammo. That stuff has taken out millions of people around the world, so it must work.
OP, are you sure your range requires brass cased ammo? Usually it is NON-MAGNETIC ammo and most of the commie block steel cased ammo is magnetic. I would be sure to speak with someone who really knows.Comment

500 -1000 rounds is considered stocking up? On an average I go through 3-500 rounds in a range trip. Did you mean 500-1000 per gun?Im just a doode, playin' a doode, disguised as another doode

I have several thousand of several calibers. .223, M-1 carbine, 9mm, .45 ACP, .38/.357, .30-06 in enblock clips and even .44 mag. I have a couple thousand steel case .223 and most of it is 62 gr HPs, along with my varmint hunting reloads.Comment

Not to be mean, but I am sure others have already pointed out 1000 rounds per caliber is hardly stocking upHopefully this is the correct section for this question.
Ok, so I am trying to stock up on ammo. I'm thinking either to save up 500 or 1000 rounds per caliber. The amount depends on how I can store it and the room it takes.
I plan on never using this ammo for a long time. It's something I would like to save if SHTF.
Now for the question; Is it a good or a bad idea to save up on aluminum cased ammo? The reason I'm asking because its cheaper than brass cased ammo.
Some things to take into consideration:
- I don't reload
- My local range requires I shoot brass so I don't mind buying a few hundred of those when I got shoot
- Aluminum doesn't rust
- Brass does tarnish, but not rustLIVE FREE OR DIE!

I'd check out all the Walmarts near you. They have Federal Champion Aluminum for $9.9x, and Perfecta Brass for $10.9x. You pay tax, but don't have to deal with shipping. Price works out to a few dollars less than that Blazer Aluminum, and you can buy less than a case at a time.9mm CCI Blazer Aluminum is on sale at Target Sports USA for $220/1000 rounds with free shipping.
It's quality aluminum.
