Opinions on Ruger

Not a Ruger fan boy by any means, but I own 3: Lefty American Rifle in .308, 10/22, and SR 22. All three were purchased because the prices were right for what I needed.

I would not hesitate to buy another Ruger product if it was what I was looking for and the price was right. Actually I'm thinking my next bolt gun will be a M77 Hawkeye in .30-06.

Most guys on here must be idiots, 10/22 is only the best selling 22lr in history. Not to mention the mk1/mk2 ect. SR1911 I handled was pretty nice as well. While I agree guns like the lcp and p95 are not the most pleasurable to shoot they have their purpose. More gun store employees need to learn that silence is a void that need not be filled.

LOL as already pointed out to you the Marlin 60 and its variants have sold over double as many millions of rifles as the 10/22.

But we can agree that the Ruger MK series is "where it's at" for rimfire pistols...

1 Mark II (.22LR)
1 SR22 (.22LR)
3 10/22s (.22LR)
2 Mini-14 Ranch Rifles (5.56)
1 GSR (.308)

While I could probably live without the P89 and the SR22, I'm not getting rid of any of them. The Gunsite Scout Rifle is the best of them all. God forbid, if I could only have one gun of any type, make, or model, it would be my Ruger GSR.

The only Rugers I have ever owned are wheel guns, but they have all been well made and very fit-for-purpose firearms. So I have no first hand experience with their semi-auto pistols, or any of their long guns.

However, I think any company that has been around as long as S. Ruger has probably had at least one, or a couple, of models that commercialized before the hicups were all worked out. So it wouldn't surprize me if there are some justified critics out there.

From what I have seen and experienced, Rugers seem to be decent value for their cost.

The kid don't know much. Ruger is known for their 22 auto pistols, their first product. They make one million firearms a year, somebody is buying them. Top quality products include the 10/22, the minis, bolt rifles, single shot rifles, double action and single action revolvers...on and on.

I don't consider myself a Ruger fanboy by any means but I do own several of various sorts.

I've got a few Ruger revolvers. They're nothing spectacular right out of the box but what they are is rugged and reliable and an excellent platform for customization.

We have a couple of Ruger Pistols as well. The P345d fits my hand exceptionally well and is top notch reliable. This serves as my nightstand pistol. I also own a Ruger SR40c which handles and carries exceptionally well for me despite it's small size. This pistol did have a flaw right out of the box - one of the pins had a tendency to walk out during firing. A call to Ruger had them falling all over themselves to send me a box for shipping on their dime - they had it fixed and returned to me in 2 weeks flat, and nary a problem since.

My wife owns a Ruger Mark III target pistol. It's a sweet shooter but it's the very devil himself when it comes to takedown and reassembly. Also the sights leave a lot to be desired but those are easily replaced.

We have a Ruger 10/22 and it's a semi-auto .22 lr rifle - no more, no less. It does what it's supposed to do. Not fancy, but not intended to be either. However, if fancy and custom is what you want, you are in luck using the 10/22 as a starting point for whatever kind of "custom" .22 you want to build - the aftermarket support is unparalelled.

I have heard that Ruger will undo any custom mods you have made to any gun you send to them for repairs. I'm told it's a product liability thing. So if you had a sweet 3.5 lb trigger job done on your Ruger, and you send it for warranty work of any kind, you will get it back with the original crap 12 lb "lawyer safe" trigger. Shouldn't be a problem if you know that going in. Just keep it in mind.

My over-all opinion - they are makers of generally decent guns, and they take extremely good care of their customers while covering their own liability. If you want a Maserati you won't be found shopping on the VW sales lot. If you want a high-dollar brag to your buddies gun, you won't be drooling over a display case of Rugers. But as my nightstand and carry choices indicate, yes, I do trust them to back me up when the chips are down.

My opinion of that gunstore "kid" is that either he is paid on commission and trying to steer the customer to a more expensive gun, or he possesses a veritable wealth of ignorance which he is only too willing to share.

Own several Rugers.Too lazy to count them.Would be a huge hole in my collection without them.

Had one issue with a magazine,Ruger customer replaced it without any questions.

I have a ruger pc9 my dad has a ruger mini 14 both are reliable and quality products. I plan on getting a p series 9mm to match my pc9 when I turn 21. They have great customer service as well.

I have a ruger P89T and an American rifle in 30-06. Both great guns. A buddy of mine had an accurized Remington in .308 with an expensive stock and expensive scope that I can consistently outshoot with my 600 dollar with scope rifle. He has about 2k in his. He even shoots mine better. The pistol is a tank. I'd rather take it into the field when hunting or camping over my 1911 and M&P because of how reliable and tough it is.

I have one Ruger, MK II pencil barrel which is a lot of fun to shoot. Along with the semi auto Marlins I can do a lot of damage to soda cans.

The last three brand new Ruger handguns that I bought all had to go back to the factory. Two were semi-auto pistols that they were able to repair. One was a revolver that they were unable to repair and had to be replaced with new one. To Ruger's credit, they paid shipping both ways on all three guns and made good on the repairs / replacement.

Unfortunately, even in light of their excellent customer service, I will not be buying any more Ruger products as I don't wish to risk having to go through the headaches, disappointment, and loss of confidence in the product that these trips back to the factory cause for me.

Well...if one is to believe numbers....Ruger is #1 when it comes to firearms sales. S&W second. There is a reason they are number one. That reason is value. Period. I trust my life with every Ruger firearm that I own.
