What's your opinion of the salesman?

Doesn't know what he's talking about. Ruger makes solid, well-designed firearms, in every style, at popular prices. It's one of the few companies that haven't compromised their workmanship and quality as the years have gone by.

Only complaint I have about Ruger is their semi-auto centerfire pistols are butt-ugly. I would never buy one. Life is too short.

I like the 10/22's I have & my fairly recent MK111 22/45 is another favorite. I'm really starting to like my 22 pistol! I've owned several mini 14's in the past, they were nice, never any issues. I don't care for certain Ruger pistols, but a blanket statement like that's kinda silly.

I never met a 10/22, a MkI/II, Redhawk or a Blackhawk I didn't like. All have been solid guns.

Not a huge fan of their larger semi autos only for the fact they seemed a little too cumbersome to field strip.

The LC series pistols have a long trigger pull and was not the easiest to get a decent grouping out of, and that would be bad especially if used in a SD situation.

"yeah, Ruger is known for their revolvers, that's the only thing they have worth getting"

Now I'm not a Ruger fan boy but this seems to be a pretty stupid comment to make given my own experiences. I've never heard anyone make a blanket statement like that before (from the other side of the counter)

So what's your opinion on Ruger?

I don't like their non 22lr semi auto pistols... on the 'no way' list.

If the people were specifically looking at non 22lr semi auto pistols; I agree with the salesperson....

Well, when speaking of handguns, revolvers are about the only rugers you can get in ca, at least new...

I don't own a single Ruger. 1989 changed my opinion of owning one.

I only ask the opinion of salesman I have dealt with for years and know they know what they are talking about.

For example, one guy told me I should skip the G19 as a defensive gun because it is underpowered and jams all the time, and I should get a DE44 or 50AE instead(and yes he said this with a straight face, guy must have needed a commission bad).

As far as Ruger, I like them, they don't make the prettyist, or most accurate guns in the world, but they are decent looking enough, accurate enough for 90+% of shooting, and really really reliable(I honestly can't recall a single stoppage that wasn't ammo related in any of mine, and I have quite a few)

The most fun to shoot rifle I ever owned was a black Ruger Ranch Model Mini-14 with Butler Creek folding stock, 30 round factory mag and Tasco scope circa '93. It was my first semi-auto .223 Rem rifle and I would gleefully destroy small tea cup saucers I bought from the discount store with each pull of the trigger at 100 yards.

This was way before the internet told me that it wasn't possible because "Mini-14s suck". I regrettably sold it to fund something "cooler" thinking I'd replace it later. Then, SB-23 happened. I still haven't gotten around to replacing it.

Mini-14s were also around $500 back in those days.

Still are, I suppose.
They don't like to make expensive guns.
They do make seriously dependable and rugged firearms for the most part.

Now they have become the traditional American firearms supplier.

Folks forget that prior to 1994, when most people wanted a .223 they bought a Mini-14. It was like a standard. The AR-15 was sort of weird and exotic.

We can thank Dianne Feinstein for changing that!

I just traded for a Ruger Mark III Hunter. Sold one a few years back and have regretted it so had to get another. Funny I did the transfer at Cerritos Ammo Bros. Checked out the SA store recently and have had pretty knowledgeable sales people every time. "Cole" helped me out ordering a S&W revolver. There is a lot of misinformation out there.

I must be wrong as I have about 8-9 Ruger Rifles in larger chambering(M77), a 10/22, several rev, a 22RF semi-auto pistol, a 9mm semi-auto pistol and a 45ACP semi-auto pistol.
I have them because I like them and they are excellent firearms.

I do not mean this as a blanket statement but there are far too many firearm salesmen that know very little about what they talk about and/or push their personal feeling/likes/dislikes on to customers.

He probably would have something bad to say about my factory limited edition Colt 1911 in 45ACP since it is not a double stack, striker fired, poly framed pistol.

When I am in a shop and some fool starts that kind of stuff with me I usually just cut them off at the knees and then go about what I came in for.

Ruger's semi-auto products from the '80s left many older guys with a poor impression of their hand guns, at least the autos. People were complaining they had too many moving parts versus the other products out there. I believe they were referring to the p85? It had a little over 70? They weren't bad, or problematic, just scared people that they had so many "extra" parts in them. That's my two cents and what I remember hearing about them from our "weapons" guys at the time. Their revolvers and shotguns were always regarded as top notch, along with their rifles (m77 and mini14).

I trust my life to mt carry piece and it is a Ruger SR9C. Not one single issue with it. And as for my 10/22's, flawless. But he is right about their revolvers, I love my vaquero's.
