At the age when you are dying a slow miserable death due to multiple maladies. Average in the US is 78 YO.

Keep in mind that when that happens under current restrictions, you will do it alone. No visitors are allowed. You will be alone, in excruciating pain, and terrified. That is the reality of covid policy today. That is how my father recently died. Deliberate cruelty to our elders is just evil. "Thank" you covid police.

It is childish and naive to believe that if only we got covid policy just right we would all live decades longer. Covid has not made a significant difference it the average lifespan of Americans. It has been successful in advancing the pathway to "The big reset", a transition to a one world socialist government.

I've never heard of a covid policy that prevents anyone from being patients home. In fact, when our own family had to deal with covid, we were offered the hospice care at home - and this was a confirmed covid19 case, too.

Once you are in the hospital dying, and the doctor says there is nothing more that can be done, he was too far gone to go home. With a couple of days to live there is no time to set up the logistics. He spent most of the previous year isolated in a nursing home and the hospital. He tied to come home for a month and could not do it.

But, we did hospice care at home, with my mother, . It was a brutal specticle. It was extremely traumatizing for her and the family members who witnessed it.

The slow death that many of us suffer is not like a Hallmark movie. People do not pass away peacefully surrounded by their family. At least I do not know of any who pulled it off.

Having professional 24-7 comfort care is better. My beef is barring the family for fears of giving a terminal patient the flu. It is ridiculous and cruel to everyone involved.

The graphs are totally irrelevant as to whether Sweden "had it right".

Sweden had it right because they chose to not attempt to interfere with each individual's right to decide for themselves what risks they find acceptable. They provided information as to what could mitigate infections (social distancing), explained the risks and then left it up to the citizens to be personally responsible.

You have the right to protect yourself. Personally, I believe that you have the duty to do so, but it is up to every individual to decide.

You do NOT have the right to restrict others, destroy their livelihoods and cause intentional personal destruction and eventual death to thousands (maybe tens of thousands) by arbitrarily deciding which businesses survive and which fail simply so that you can feel better about your chances of not contracting the disease.

So if your point in displaying graphs and data is to educate others as to the risks they face so that they can decide for themselves what to do - great. Information is always good.

But if the point of a discussion on whether "Sweden got it right" is to argue as to whether it's legitimate for a government to impose arbitrary restrictions in a clearly futile attempt to stop a virus - forget it.

It is the very definition of selfishness to destroy lives and cause unnecessary death (guaranteed results) in an attempt to improve your chances of not dying by mere hundredths or thousandths of a percent by restricting and locking down others rather than simply taking whatever personal measures are necessary to protect yourself.

And no, the fact that we're talking about a infectious disease does not impact that whatsoever.

You seem very fixated upon restrictions. The point of the post, was, and this is like 3rd or 4th time in this thread I'm saying this, that the "20% to herd immunity" ideology that was proposed by rand paul and then repeated triumphantly here many times over the past several months IS DEAD WRONG. we don't even have to talk about generalization, about how sweden's people enjoy a life vastly different from one that most americans enjoy. we can just look at how it worked out for them, in a nation that has extremely generous SOCIALIST benefits for its people (there's a reason why IKEA's founder doesn't live in Sweden - he's dodging about 70% in taxes IIRC).

but since you brought that up - okay, lets talk about that. I certainly don't have power to restrict anyone, and I wouldn't want to. The government, however, does, and has routinely exercised that power. The health department shuts you down if an inspector determines that your business doesn't meet health standards. Schools and businesses are shut down if OSHA determines that a site doesn't meet health and safety standards. The FDA, EPA, ATF, Fire Departments... we can go on. You can also throw in FEMA, the military... the government does absolutely have the power to impose restrictions. whether that power is exercised justifiably is something for courts, legislature, etc. states, including ones that have been previously adamant about restrictions being unnecessary like north dakota, are exercising that power right now.

so if you, and anyone else, DOESN'T want restrictions, DOESN'T want the government to come in with an iron fist to close us all down - - then you and anyone else with an ounce of sense needs to stop actively contributing to the spread of this virus. because, if you haven't noticed, that is exactly what's happening. red state, blue state, one by one each state and county is locking down. I don't agree with it, I think it's incredibly unimaginative, but that's what it is.

and at the very least, stop pounding your chests and demanding that businesses serve you while ignoring their house rules regarding masks and distancing. those people are not only helping the virus along, they are also putting businesses at risk of unwanted attention from that same government.
