Wait..... my impression was that it would be legal so long as it fed for it's original purpose, just like it would be ok to use a 10rd 50 Beowulf magazine for .223 as long as it continued to work in its original caliber.

That's why I was actually a bit confused by the mini-shell argument, since from what I can find most Mossbergs require modifications to feed them consistently, and these mods don't allow the original 2 3/4" or 3" shells to work.

It depends which shells you are talking about. The Aguila shells are about 1-inch long and feed reliably in an unmodified Winchester 1300. If you want to use them in an unmodified Rem870 or Moss5XX ... you need to be VERY careful when operating the pump. I would not trust them in an 870 or 5XX HD gun.

Centurion makes some 2-inch shells which work just fine in my Mossberg 590 and 590A1. I can fit only one more shell in the 590 (which is 5+1 standard) so it doesn't really get me much extra capacity. My 590 is a 8+1 configuration though, and I can fit a total of11 shells in the tube for a total of 11+1 ... that's significant. (Sometimes I can fit only 10 of the Centurions, probably just variance between lots.)

I'm absolutely stoked about the Kel-Tec ... can't wait to try one.

Aguila shells are not normal, regular shotshells. So any test will default back to standard sizing.

On the other hand, I do expect an aggressive DA to count the number of slug shells inside this shotgun in front of a jury one by one slowly.

Where are all the videos of people shooting one?

Everyone was really stoked on the KRISS until we saw the SHOT videos of it jamming repeatedly.

That thing is so cool I would consider selling a kidney for it, provided it's kosher with the AWB. Haha That would be funny, selling an organ on the illegal black market to buy a legal weapon.

There are a lot of highly unlikely-to-occur scenarios that would need to occur before this argument would need to be presented, but this logic as a criminal defense would most certainly fail.

I think it's quite clear and could be clearly and successfully argued in court that putting 10+ rounds of 9mm into a 10-round .40 magazine -and having it function in a firearm- would be creating a new "High-Capacity Magazine".

I think it would be the same condition with Aguila mini-shells.

Prosecution establishes you did not own the magazine -or its attached firearm- before 2000 and demonstrates how you were caught with X number of rounds of compatible ammunition totaling more than 10 loaded into it. Pretty reasonable to an average jury...

This looks really sweet but WTF??? Kel-Tec can't even get the RFB out the door in any quantity so how are they gonna get this out the door? Hopefully I am wrong but I foresee high mark-ups and long waits before you can order one and get it withing a month. Maybe they are gonna announce at SHOT that their power issues have been resolved and they can go full on at the plant.

seams to me the front mag caps unscrew... could EASILY implement something blocking both magazines to 5 rounds if it is deemed that these TWO DIFFERENT magazines = 1 "high capacity" feeding device

which to my understanding... DOES NOT (but IANAL)
worst case - we'd have to remove the magazine selector to allow for "use of a tool" siminar in purpose to a bullet button to switch between magazines.

to me this seams 100% legal, and OK. and I WILL be getting one at first opportunity. if I get busted, expect me to take down the magazine capacity restriction in CA along with whoever dares to try and prosecute me.

Reading all these post about having the ability to switch between two types of ammunition...

I have trouble keeping count of the one tube of my 870 when shooting clays on BLM land... especially when I start topping it off halfway through. 6, -1, -1, -1, +2, -1, +1, -1... wha? lost count. I can't imagine having to keep track of two tubes. Especially in the heat of hypothetical mallnijna-ish zombie battle.

And then, when topping it off during the zombie invasion, will you be paying enough attention to put the buck shot in the buck shot tube and not accidentally in the slug tube?
