I have bought two of the Steven's 350s (Ithaca clones) and have been VERY impressed with them. Have had ZERO issues and both of them together ran me about two-thirds what a single new Ithaca costs.

My Mossy 835 is clunkier than the 870. Are Mossy 500's too? 835 has shot a lot of ducks though. So has the 870, but it is about 12-13 years old; not of latest manufacture.

No one ever mentions Browning BPS or Winchester as option...

Brownings are nice but they are in Wingmaster pricing territory...$600ish and not the 870 Express or Mossberg 500 price range of $300ish.

Sorry to hear that. Consider calling Remington and sending it to them to fix. I am sure they can get it working 100 percent for you.
RIP Louis Awerbuck. I miss you and your training.

Another issue the other guys brought up was the cheap target ammo. I deliberately buy that to test fire my custom builds. They come with factory new barrels that I simply clean and I have yet to have any issues with any ammo.

Of course I only test fire a few hundred 870's a year so I guess if I was a retail buyer and only bought one I would have the same problems.

Bottom Line Guys - it is not the gun.

What do you mean by "clean the chamber"?

On your website http://www.aiptactical.com/Page_2.html you explain how to polish the chamber. You also state "If you purchased one from me you should not have this issue as I polish the chamber, however, if you are using cheap ammo, you may."

If nothing needs to be done, why do you say you polish the chamber?

With two stock 870 barrels, I've only ever had problems with Winchester whitebox low-brass shells from Walmart. With a Carlson aftermarket barrel that's chrome plated and seemingly looser chamber, it even eats the Winchester white box ammo.

I think due to the single extractor design, the 870 pulls one side of the shell and the shell tries to tilt while coming out of the chamber. This motion relies on a smooth chamber/breech wall so that the other side of the case rim doesn't jam against the wall. If there are machine marks on that barrel lug surface, it's worth the effort to sand it smooth.

Either that, or never use Winchester whitebox in an 870.
