my mate has an benelli nova and it shoots amazing but davidsons doesn't sell benelli.

I'm leaning towards an a300.

JEEZUSCHRIST!!! Go to a local gun shop and buy some old stuff! I have 3 Winchester model 21's built in 1934, 1938, and 1951. Ok so they were all in the thousands of dollars. I have a Winchester model 101 purchased new in 1989. NEVER have any of them failed. But my backup is a beat up 870 with rust stains. Police trade in $80.00 + a 120.00 Ebay barrel , vent rib, adapted to winchokes ( which I already had with the 101)

The 870 fires EVERYTIME never any function problems, So buy really good stuff. Or $200.00 with some patience solves your problem

Take the store credit and get something else, an older(ie. not piece of crap) remington, plenty of other older shotguns to choose from that work just fine, or something different but new. Don't let these guys making excuses get to you. The idea that the customer should have to properly polish the chamber(or anything else to get a new gun working out of the box) because the manufacturer failed to do so(for years now) is just insanity.

Get rid of the 870, you'll be happy not to deal with this nightmare pos shotgun again.No amount of chamber cleaning or polishing Is going to fix it's jams. Remington screwed it up hard from the factory.

It's funny how many issues there are with Remington in general (well, not really funny but I digress). I've seen 870's jam up at burro, rem .223 duds (the ONLY brand that gave me a dud, even wolf gold was more consistent). In fact, I was in the market for a pump and thought about getting an 870, then I said f it and bought an A300 LOL

It's a freakin' pump-action 870, it's not a complicated action and shouldn't need the chamber scrubbed with a diaper worn by Baby Jesus himself in order to cycle more than 1 whole magazine without a failure. If it's that problematic, even after you got a replacement shotgun, I think it's time to ditch the new 870's and move on to something else (like many many others suggested: an older 870, a mossberg, supernova, etc.). A pump-action shotgun should just WORK, right out of the box, all the time, with no fuss other than routine maintenance.

you would think the 870 is the tired and true work horse but it isn't. Im waiting for the final words from davidsons. once i get the word from that, i be moving forward with it.. I was going to get an 700 for my bolt gun but now.. I be looking at an tikka instead..

i understand gun breaks, but twice.. and they are brand new.. that's just unacceptable.. i expect it on an old gun but not new..

New I wouldn't be happy with today's 870's, but for the $200 I gave for my like new express it was well worth it, even after the 10 min - $10 barrel tab/ chamber polish.

well. I spoke with Davidsons and they have two options. A. repair it B. Replace it.

i spoke with the sales rep and I called Remington about it.

Remington issued me an call tag to have it shipped out to an local gun smith. if thing's needed to be done, they might swap out my receiver with an new one.

I have the 870, have ran about 2300 rounds thru it. Wallmart Remington 100 round bulk packs, never had an issue. Last trip to wallmart they had the Winchester 100 round packs, I had the same issue as youwith this ammo, it would cycle a few then get stuck and I could not get the chamber to open with out slamming the gun on the butt will holding the forearm slide. Gave the rest of the Winchester to a buddy went back to the Remington and never had an issue again.

It's funny that you mention the that, because no one ever believes me. It's always, Jo you are wrong the army uses 870. The only 870 I saw in country was one some Coast Guard guys had at a chow hall in Kuwait. We weren't even issued 590s, just the 500s like you mentioned. One with a pistol grip and two others with the full stock. I bought a 590 when I got back because how much I was impressed with it over seas.

The military changes vendors on shotguns periodically, just as they do on vehicles. It's Fords for a couple years and then the fleet is Chevy and then Dodge. There have been Winchesters, Ithacas, Mossbergs, Remingtons and now Benellis used by the US military over the years.

My buddy carried a WELL worn military issue 870 Wingmaster on drug interdiction patrols in Nicaragua in the late 80s.
