If they can let me return it for store credit, I'm going to put it towards an a300. I'm just tired of a gun not cycling and not working when i need to.. I'm disappointed with the remington company.
I had to work out some problems with my 870, and now it functions flawless. That being said, I have never had any problems with my A300 Outlander. I've dropped it in the marsh a couple times too. It's my favorite gun!

Have you checked the ejector? My 870 had similar issues when the ejector snapped.

I've had similar issues with that Winchester ammo. I just stopped buying it and switched to Federal and a couple of other brands without issue.

Some good info here though - re polishing, etc.

Unfortunately, I had to sell my 870 last year. I will be buying another but not new. It seems like Remington has been rather careless with QC in the last 5 years or so.

I have an A300 Outlander, and it runs flawlessly. Of course I use good quality ammo, but it's still the best value out there today.

Yeah, these days it's better to buy older Remingtons (1950-1980's) than the new ones. My 1951 870 and 1971 1100 are flawless, my newer (mid-2000's) 870's took a while to get there.

It is amazing how well the 870 works when people learn to clean the chamber and stop using cleaning fluids in them. Been around this gun since 1980 and have no issues, none. I simply keep the chamber clean. I was issued several over the years and have owned many more. I have run my barrels dry for over 35 years without issue.

Another issue the other guys brought up was the cheap target ammo. I deliberately buy that to test fire my custom builds. They come with factory new barrels that I simply clean and I have yet to have any issues with any ammo.

Of course I only test fire a few hundred 870's a year so I guess if I was a retail buyer and only bought one I would have the same problems.

Bottom Line Guys - it is not the gun.

My 870 did the same thing with the win field stuff. Polished the chamber a little and no problems. I have had no problems shooting win out of my sx3,1187, or 500.

That's pretty much what I thought also, but without seeing it, it's hard to say.

Polishing the chamber doesn't work. I had mine done professionally by a gunsmith more than once. Don't listen to people who make money off a certain brand of shotgun.

It is not your fault. People are idiots for trying to tell you it is. They just can't accept the FACT that a very HIGH percentage of 870s don't work. It is not the way you cleaned your gun. A pump gun should work with any ammo you can possibly purchase at a retail store. Almost every time I go to shoot skeet or trap, I see some poor guy mortaring his 870 trying to remove a stuck shell.

Sell the thing and save yourself headaches. I did. My Supernova works fine.

Glad I bought a 590a1... seems like I started hearing about the supreme failure of the 870 after I did my research and decided on the 500 series.

Not a single issue with it, even when I try and short stroke it to eject the live round in the chamber, without loading a new one, so I can safely unload the tube.

Hope OP gets his gun fixed or gets a good replacement.

Two things amaze me about this topic.

                            1. The people who deny there is a problem because they have not personally seen it.

                            2. The ridiculously retarded advice to use steel wool to polish the chamber.

The problem is real. It comes up all the freaking time. And, polishing the chamber does not work.

People who earn their living selling the big fat turd that is the 870 will deny and insult. What else would you expect?

Get a Mossberg, get a Nova, get a Supernova. Get anything but a recent production 870.

I have to agree with this ^^^ comment from RCjackrabbit.

I think part of the problem stems from the 870 was THE go to shotgun, that was well made for such a long time and has a very loyal fan base.
the current problem seems to be quality control which means only a few guns will be affected, so again you might get lucky and get a great one.
it reminds me of Taurus handguns, except they didn't have the long time fan base behind them.

the solution seems simple keep buying from Davidsons and keep sending it back till its done right...(that's actually good to hear that their lifetime guarantee actually works so well.)

by an older used version which seems to be better and maybe test it out before you purchase.

or buy a Mossberg, beretta or another make that has a better current reputation.

and let me add quickly if you've got to polish chambers on a brand new shotgun to make it work with even cheap ammunition...
Someone at that factory is NOT doing their job.

                                When will people learn?

Buy an Old Wingmaster. The new stuff is junk.
