I never got into rimfire. The last time I shot a .22 was when I was 10-12 years old in the late 90's. Only been into guns for a couple years now with my first purchase being well into the panic of 2013.

Don't know if I'll ever bother picking up a .22 at this point.

It seems to me that the 22lr supply is returning even though it is still .08+ per round. PSA and other vendors seem to have it in-stock on a near continuous basis at higher prices plus shipping. The fact that it doesn't disappear quickly must mean that they are getting a lot of product and/or people just are not buying it up immediately (waiting).

You should have bought .22lr 15 years ago & you wouldn't be upset.

My 15 year old boxes of Remington .22LR all are showing corrosion and white stuff at the casing edges. They get stuck in my revolver cylinders and won't cycle in my semi-auto's.

I still have 3,500 rounds of 35 year old Peters ammo that shoots better than most of the new stuff

that should of been everybodies attitude at the beginning. the flippers weren't doing anyone a favor. the tax man should of kept tabs of the people selling online or putting ads in the newspaper... then come a knock knock - wheres our share ?
if they could do it to fps russia why not flippers?

Way to go OP… I got into guns around 2010 and still remember Big 5 selling the CCI Blazers 525 packs for $19.99 = around $.04 cents a round. With the flux increase of demand in recent years, suppliers are just going by the economic rule to raise prices, and we can all thank the hoarders for this. At the current average rate of about $.10 cents a round, I too went on strike and put my 22’s in solitude. However, a new girlfriend took a real liking to shooting my 22’s and revived them from isolation. In turn, I had to give in to buying 1500 rounds at $.08 cents a round; thanks to a fellow Calgunner. This with another 1500 I already had in my stash, 3K of 22lr rounds should hold us off for the next year.

Kind of weird to be declaring that now, just as supplies are really opening up. There were a ton of black friday deals on .22 that hung around for a long time.

Things will probably get better for a couple of months but whatever prices and availably are like in February are as good as they're going to be for a while. Around March people are going to start loading up for the summer and there will most likely be bad shortages again. I think people in California forget that in a lot of the country people aren't going out with the kids blowing through a brick of .22 during the winter. It's a seasonal activity.

I picked up some late in the afternoon (black) Friday and saw a ton at Walmart this morning at 9am. It does appear to be staying around a bit longer these days.

Three or Ten cases is not too much. You really think any Feds care how many rimfire plinking rounds you have? How about tins of pellets?

I was in Reno on black Friday and decided to check out the local Walmart thinking that the prices would be better and availability would be plentiful in Nevada. Boy was I wrong. All they had was CCI 100 packs for $7.99 and limited to one box per customer. With my GF, I went ahead and got 2 boxes. On the way home, we decided to check out Cabelas and the ammo supply there was even worse.

Yep, me too after 47 years I am done with 22's as well. I kept my 9 shot H&R but all others are gone. FKem!

I recently started shooting BB/Pelet guns because of the 22lr ammo shortage. My favorite are the C02 powered blowback style BB pistols. These feel really similar to 22 pistols to me and I can shoot them in my backyard.

Don't understand the fuss.

At the very pinnacle of the panic, I could get high quality .22 LR for 0.14 per round shipped.

More recently I can get quality subsonic for 0.09 per round shipped. Got another case, don't need more for a couple years or so.

Never waited in line. Never had to "know a guy." Punched up the order, and a little white van showed up a few days later.

Now, it's true that I used to get the same .22 LR for 0.03 per round, and I'm old enough to remember bricks of bulk for under $5. It's quite a bit more expensive than it used to be, that's true.

It is in fact sufficiently expensive now that it changes the cost-benefit relationship with other calibers. 9mm is now about twice as expensive, where it used to be three to five times as expensive... half-decent 5.56 is about triple...

... but .22 LR didn't become so popular only because it was cheap. It doesn't do everything by a long shot, but there are several things that it does very, very well.

Now that it's spendier I tend to shoot my bolt .22 LR more than the autoloader. But it's not the end of the world.

When General Washington arrived to take charge of the Continental Army at Boston, he found the entire army had a mere eight rounds per man.

In the Great Depression, my grandfather, more than once, was handed a single round -- more often than not, a .22 LR -- and expected to bring home something for the table. If not, well, them shoes start looking mighty tasty...

So anyway, I wish the ammo was cheaper too. I also wish I could get ribeye steaks for a buck each. Again, it isn't the end of the world.
