I almost bought a savage 22lr bolt action at dicks for 150.00 on Black Friday but am over shooting 22, rather shoot 762 or 5.55. My 22s are the only guns I haven't touch in 6 months.

Or face reality some of us are just done playing with 22's. I had over 15 of them and I'm down to 2 right now only because I don't know where one of them should go, will I miss them, not a chance. There are far too many other calibers that do the same thing or better.

Don't understand the fuss.

At the very pinnacle of the panic, I could get high quality .22 LR for 0.14 per round shipped.

More recently I can get quality subsonic for 0.09 per round shipped. Got another case, don't need more for a couple years or so.

Well I can understand it when I check every once in a while and there is zero .22 LR ammo online for less than .10 a round.

I stockpiled/PREPARED for about a year and delivered price per round range from .045 to .055 for the cheap bulk pack stuff and .075-.09 for CCI flavors, 100 packs and bulk packs. If a new shooter or someone not trying to get prepared till now sticks their head up, it would be frustrating. But if you blame people who started buying it 6 months or a year before you, you are just a silly hater. Boo hoo, he has 5000 rounds and I have Eff'all. Tough. Spend the time and money or don't.

The amount of butthurt in the firearms community over the price/availabilty of 22LR (and all of the theorized reasons, and the winners/losers of that limited availability) over the past two years is both obscenely funny and completely sad.

Grow up, guys. Seriously. You're embarrassing yourselves.

I have had a lot of fun hunting for .22lr in the past two years. Started off with a case of federal hp at $17.99 a brick before I even had a rimfire. Bought a Glenfield 18 in the tube. Now I have 4 rimfires with the CZ 452 being the last purchase. Now I have nothing but hi quality ammo for the range, medium quality for family shoots. Had a lot of fun at the range last Friday with a couple of my friends, shot up a lot of .22lr without a worry at all.

Deals are there. Have been buying online deals at close to old prices, 4 boxes of Federal target at 5 cents per. Pending order from Cabelas for 6 boxes more of assorted brands at 5-7 Cents...

Own a couple dozen 22s, still great for practice, training, competition...Never bought from Scumbag Flippers and never will.

But the Haters here should have thought ahead like everyone who follows trends, this is the 4th Panic in the last 20 plus years and there will be more.

You think you've got it bad? In 1775, my great^6 grandfathers were busily melting down their last pieces of silverware to make a few musketballs.

When General Washington arrived to take charge of the Continental Army at Boston, he found the entire army had a mere eight rounds per man.

In the Great Depression, my grandfather, more than once, was handed a single round -- more often than not, a .22 LR -- and expected to bring home something for the table. If not, well, them shoes start looking mighty tasty...

So anyway, I wish the ammo was cheaper too. I also wish I could get ribeye steaks for a buck each. Again, it isn't the end of the world.

Most "silverware" in the Colonies was pewter. Not a terribly good ballistic alloy, but better than throwing rocks.

Silver silver was typically pooled, melted to boullion, and used to pay smugglers or finance raids on Crown powder houses. There was no Colonial production of powder in 1775.

Yeah I added a revolver recently too. No Bolt guns yet, but maybe next year.

I have actually been giving away more rimfire ammo than shooting it lately. Everyone seems unable to find it themselves. I gave away a bunch of CCI Mini-mags recently so I would like to find 1000 or so in the slider packs.

Other calibers are taking up my time. I am tempted to shoot up my .04 per round 8mm Mauser ammo, or .10 per round 7.62x54R... but then I'd have to buy more at todays prices, so I will keep rationing it and make it last. Long before I run dry, I will buy more at the best prices I can find even if they are inflated. If you don't have a thousands of rounds, you gotta ration it out, but don't blame people who have zero worries about .22 plinking because they prepared. It is a luxury, not a necessity and there are other calibers. New shooters can blame the "hoarders" and preppers can blame the all the new shooters, or you can just get busy finding some.

All they had was CCI 100 packs for $7.99 and limited to one box per customer. With my GF, I went ahead and got 2 boxes. On the way home, we decided to check out Cabelas and the ammo supply there was even worse.

When Cabela's has the free shipping code with no minimum order (like now) ordering one box of ammo is not a problem and we should take advantage of it as much as possible. If they offer a $8 box of mini-mags and the shipping is $8.99, that's not a great deal. Right now is the time to watch Cabela's for in-stock .22 if you want any.

Once you amass a little stash you can get busy shooting without worrying about picking up ammo immediately before a range trip. That's what I call living. Get out and shoot.

I do keep my stash for my wife, she likes to shoot .22LR. I used to until every shot reminded me of my last purchase.

.223 is the new .22LR. I reload those for around 17 cents and they perform very well next to those .22's. 600 yards is my new 100 yards.

I'm glad I didn't waste my money on a dedicated .22LR AR upper. It too would be sitting unused. I do have a Ciener bolt for that if I want to shoot .22's. Meanwhile, the .22's are saved for the wife to shoot.
