    Down to 30,000 rounds...5000 more on order!

    Not hoarding just restocking!
    TURNING and turning in the widening gyre
    The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
    Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
    Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
    The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
    The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
    The best lack all conviction, while the worst
    Are full of passionate intensity.

    William Butler Yeats 1865-1939

        I'm not hoarding, since I don't own a. 22.. I thought about getting a. 22 rifle, but with the shortage if ammo it doesn't make sense.

          In part I think people hoard ammo (whether 22LR, 9mm, .45, etc). because gov't actions imply that ammo will either soon be taxed (which I think will occur within the next 3-5 years just as a pack of cigarettes are) or the sale of ammo will be regulated.

          I also think (in regards to California), the state will limit how many handguns can be 'on the list' within a certain caliber. What may happen is the state will impose a limit (i.e. 20) of how many handguns of each caliber will be allowed for sale in the state. For example, there are about 75 handguns currently on the roster that are 22LR. I can see a day when the state will set a limit of 50 22RL handguns on the roster....then a couple years later that number drops to 40...and so on. Or the state makes it a near-economic hardship (or PITA) for a manufacturer to submit a handgun to be included on the roster.

          Personally, in addition to the two I owned, I've purchased 4 handguns within the past 7 months with enough ammo for each caliber (22LR, 32ACP, 380ACP, 9MM & 45ACP) to last for a long while. And I will continue to buy ammo when good opportunities present themselves.

              Do you all know how close SB53 came to making it out of Appropriations? We will undoubtedly have some sort of ridiculous and unconstitutional tax and licensing scheme within the next few years, that's all the wankers like DeLeon and Yee fantasize about day and night. The smart people have at least 5k of center fire and 20-30k of .22 in stock and the smarter people are attending our reloading clinics to become less dependent on ammo manufacturers during times of shortage. There will be shortages again, all of the calibers except .22 have made a good comeback but that can all be thrown out the window as soon as this Summer when the overlord/legislators reveal their devious ways to make us pay for ammo in newly extraordinary and torturous ways.

              While we rejoiced over the last session and the bills we dodged, the criminals that run the state had/have full time staff thinking up new and devious ways to punish us. In 2014, there really is no such thing as hoarding anymore, there is just being smart and acquiring as much ammo as you can afford. It's never going to get cheaper than it is probably right now through the Summer so buying .22, even at slightly inflated prices, is smart. I paid .06 for a couple of bricks on that Cabelas deal with the wooden box over Christmas, but most of the other .22 I bought over last year was more in the .08 to .11 per round range, which seems to be the new lower end of "normal" for .22. It doesn't make sense to pay much more though when I can reload and shoot 9mm and .45 ACP as cheap as .12 or .13 per round. Too bad as I love shooting .22 though, it is probably one of the most fun calibers.

                Seriously, that is all .22?!?! Wow, you are the man! Very impressive. How long ago did you acquire most of it and at what kinds of prices? I am kicking myself for not having gone much deeper in the SGAmmo 5k cases for $300.00 about 18 months ago. Bought a few, wish I would have bought a LOT more. .22 is so easy to shoot a ton of, especially if you bring out three or four shooters with 10/22s or ARs for an afternoon.

                Congratulations, you have vision and will probably clean up if you sell but I would just keep it, shoot it and have it for the future.

                      I have read stories about people that survived the depression, some kept huge stock piles of provisions till the day they died...... not much different than what some people are doing now with ammo.

                        I stock .17hmr - .50bmg and according to my spreadsheet, there's under 10k of .22lr in there.. I normally wouldn't have that much .22 but I'm the ammo mule for all of my lazy friends and co-workers that just insist I must have enough ammo for everyone since I have a large gun collection despite the all of the market issues with ammo.. like I'm some sort of gun/ammo wizard

                        I have a few thousand extra for just such a mooching occasion and I never make a cent from it.. I actually end up at a small loss usually because I rarely have the exact figures for tax and or shipping and I always round down for my friends when in doubt..

                        and I'm not really taking it to the marketplace so no leg humpers please.. lol..

                        cheers all and hope everyone has what they need and scalpers get left holding the proverbial bag if/when the dust settles and ammo availability reaches some level of normality..

                        If you ever want to sell any, let me know!

                              You never know what people actually have. I know a couple of competition .22 shooters who profess to owning half a million rounds each and I have no reason to doubt them as they each own .22 rifles that cost them $5k-$8k. Both practice daily so I guess it makes sense.

                              Regardless of caliber, you still have a nice stash there Killer Bee. I am in a similar boat, several of my shooting friends ask me to buy them ammo, AR parts, etc. because I live on the Internet and they are Luddites who log on maybe once every few days. I do buy ammo for my father in law occasionally and he does the same, he scored some 12ga.Target loads for me while in Texas for $49.00 a case, good deal.

                              It will be interesting to see what happens to .22 ammo supply by Summer.

                                I have some older Win bulk HV, and notice that I am getting more duds than with the newer same ammo.
