What do you mean by hoarding? 10 cases of .22 ammo is not hoarding.

We all have different levels of being comfortable. Op you're comfortable at 1,000 rounds, I comfortable at 100,000 rounds. The scarcity, amount I shoot (every weekend) and the amount of new shooters I bring out dictate my comfort. In the last year I have gone through 15,000 rounds in the name of introducing new shooters(they love pulling that trigger). You may call100,000 rounds hoarding, I call it a guarantee that I can introduce new people into the activity we all love.

          Greed.

The new shooters with 22's theory does not explain why primers went scarce a few years ago. It does not explain why gunpowders (previously available) are scarce now, nor bullets.

Here is a simple question I've been asking the range officers ever since the first run on guns and ammo in 2008 - "With all the ammo sales recently you guys must be pretty busy right?" The answer almost invariably has been "No, business is the same."

I hunt pest animals and I have shot 10,000 rounds in one season. Lately I have slowed down to 1000 rounds on a weekend and only going out for 4-5 weekends. I don't hoard ammo but I will stock up on enough to last me through a bad year or two. For the weekend plinker 1000 rounds will do you just fine. for me not so much. The hunt challenge begins now in finding non-lead ammo to stock up on and have ready to go when the silly ban takes effect.

Because perception became reality. Fear is a very effective tool.

I'm down to my last 1k rounds. I would rather have 10k on hand.
For a couple of years I (like everyone else) was shooting more .22 because 9mm etc were expensive.
Now I'm shooting 9mm when I can because at least I can reload it, saving the .22 for the kids (who now tell me .223 is more fun ;-)

So basically, because it's cheap and is easy to shoot?

22LR the politically correct, (but non-reloadable) cartridge.

22lr rifle is fun too and cheap to shoot. i can shoot it at an indoor range out of a rifle and i can shoot it at an outdoor range. it also goes but hella quick. i can shoot 500 rounds of 22lr while burning through 150-200 rounds of 9mm and 40sw.

also its super cheap, i can purchase a case(5000 rds) for 250ish when in stock vs. 250ish for 1000 rds of 9mm reloads

I thought the lead ban was only for game animals?

Theres no mentional decay in properly stored .22 from nearly 100 years ago. I've shot 22LR from the 1920's with no problem, it all depends on how they were stored.

I have bee holding off on buy two bolt guns for my kids because I have very low supply of 22lr like <1000. No fair to then to get a new gun and have no ammo to shoot. They share my 10/22 when we go out. I did almost pay .13 a rd for 5k but have to wait.
