I wonder if this could be wear from the retainer pin for the buffer and spring. Maybe because it is basically a conversion upper that shouldn't utilize any of the buffer assembly mechanism, causes the buffer to bounce back just enough to bang against that detent pin thing to make those marks. What i cant figure out is the scratches that lead from the center of the buffer, in straight lines towards the edge of the buffer. Ill probably order the buffer thing from taccom just to make sure my buffer doesn't take unnecessary wear, and creat malfunctions for other uppers.

Big question though...i built this on a jd lower. Do i have to utilize a bullet button with this build? I have a bb and tool that allows me to either use the tool to push the bb or i can line it up and screw the tool into the bb and use it like an over sized mag release. Is that okay to do since with the upper it is a rimfire long gun?
The marks you are seeing on the buffer are impact marks from the buffer hitting the spring loaded buffer stop pin at bottom back of receiver.

You need to install a plastic spacer (buffer dia.) 2" long to preload the bolt/buffer to reduce slapping buffer.

I believe Taccom or Tactical solutions sell them with their dedicated kits.

Reading this thread has me concerned. I am building a .22 AR and have never put together a .22 AR before.

      1. 80% lower, CNC machined, engraved and cerakoted
      2. PSA LPK and stock kit from Black Friday sale
      3. CMMG 22LR 16" CM M4 RGBLP Upper

I am getting the lower back from being Cerakoted next week, assembling and test firing the rifle. Do I need to buy this Taccom or TS plug/bumper? I want this rifle to be able to run long term without needing repairs. With a .22 AR, do you even need to have a buffer setup in the tube? I thought I have read of people putting a dowel or other stuff in the buffer tube?

Please educate me, I am pretty clueless about .22 AR setups and want to do this right.

      Thanks.

I don't think the upper that you have will really need it, mine didn't for reliability, but it is supposed to help ease wear and tear. The buffer plug from taccom that is. .22lrs don't need the buffer tube assembly at all as the bcg has its own recoil system.

I would recommend the better mag adapter and some s&w mags to get the most out of your upper and lower. The mags are $17-20 from midway, and the better mag can be bought directly from redimag. Together they make the bolt hold open on the last round function the way a normal 5.56 upper would function. Otherwise you get to charge each new mag instead of dropping the open bolt on it, and end up feeling like you are shooting a 10/22 instead of an ar15. Just my opinion anyway.

          ^+1

Run a standard buffer spring/buffer with a Taccom pressure plug.

Already bought a couple of Black Dog 10 rounders that I am going to try but the better mag adapter and the other mags sound good too.

              Thanks for the advice.
