.22 lr ammo collection goal?

I just payed my bills and then I see pictures like that and wonder, how is it done. At today's prices that's two months rent.

How do you figure? I shoot all the ammo I buy/own, how does that make me a hoarder? I like shooting like most here do and want to be able to keep shooting all I want regardless of what kind of panic buying or new legislation restricting the sale of ammo.

I tend to agree with MKane on this one. You certainly have the right and freedom to buy all you want. But if we take you, multiply you by 10,000, voila: there is the shortage for the entire country.

It is good to be prepared. I Would rather have ten or so cases and be stocked up for 6 years of moderate target practice than have a safe full of guns I can't shoot.

If you are smart you spend what you can in time and money to build up your supply.

If you have ten times more ammo in your stash than me, good for you. It is a personal thing - what level you are comfortable with.

There is always going to be someone offended by your stash that don't have such lofty goals who didn't plan as well as you did or are a little late to the game.

So what are you guys going to do with all of this stuff in 2019 when the lead ban kicks in and you can no longer shoot non-game animals with it?

I don't shoot non-game animals with it now so I don't see how that's an issue.

re: the hoarding thing - we're talking long term goals. I sold quite a bit of .22 when the crisis hit because I had so much extra. That included 5K rounds that went to a scoutmaster who had promised a bunch of kids range time and another case to a gun store who ran out of ammo for their range rentals. People like me who were prepared took quite a lot of pressure off of the market as we sold since those people were going to get their ammo one way or another and better a case each from me than buying bricks every time they came online.

Now that things are back to normal it's time to start thinking about replacement strategies, including re-evaluating the end goal since this panic has lasted longer than many people planned for. Some people are getting an extra brick here or there and doing it out of petty cash. Some people like me would rather have a strategy that involves cases and minimizing shipping costs.

Bottom line when we're done the next time there's a panic we'll either be offering additional supply or at the least not buying any more and competing with the unorganized. That's a good thing.

Never overlook the people who are into shooting or hunting that have screwy views. There are quite a few.

I have talked to more than one hunter who is totally against semi-auto guns and regular capacity "clips" who are as emotional and irrational as any antigun libtard about the issue. To top it off, these are usually the guys that don't keep their guns locked up, but they have been "meaning to" buy a safe for years.

I don't consider you a hoarder. And no criticism intended, Mr. Shooter. I'm merely pointing out this is the trend that is driving the market right now and creating the conditions everyone seems to dislike. And the more people who do this, the higher and higher in cost (and more unavailable) the product will become.

There is only one thing that will break this cycle. Otherwise, we live with it and accept it as the new "norm."

^^ No hard feelings. I agree once people stop buying every box of .22 they see is when the market will go back to how it was 2 years ago. I think its improved significantly in the past couple months and will continue to.

I have been passing on all kinds of deals on .22 lr in stock lately, I am very picky about prices so most I don't buy actually.
