In general terms right now 10 cents defines the general "good" price point. however, I think that each brand has its own "good" price point,

I won't buy anything over .06 a round and I have 13k rounds of .22lr. Go for buckets and Fiocchi 2100 packs.

I recently made a trip to Reno (driving) and was able to pick up a few thousand rounds of .22LR . I've been looking at least a couple times a week since April. It REALLY sucks for me because I'm a Boy Scout Scoutmaster and I've got 15 Scouts in my troop that have been itching to go shoot and until a few weeks ago, that did not even look like a remote possibility in the forseeable future. Hoping to get my hands on 2k more and that should get us two worthwhile trips to the range between now and the end of the year.

I'm almost to the point where I say forget .22LR and just go with Pellet Guns for shooting. Might just be the only solution until the hoarders' houses fall into sinkholes because they have so much lead in their house.

When the youth stop being interested in shooting, you can kiss 2A goodbye, and you can take that to the bank and .22LR was the ideal entry round. I hope the hoarders are happy with themselves.

Sign up for email alerts, swing buy stores when you are in the area, visit the ammo finds thread several times a day, etc. The hoarding was created by the idiots in Sacramento. I am buying as much as I can before prices go through the roof. While SB53 is on hold for now, it will be coming back next session. Over 10000 rounds came from Cabelas and Gander Mountain in the last two months. Averaged .053 cents around shipped to my door. I used to drive around but I play the Internet purchase game.

You have some points I can relate to about youth shooting programs - I wish my teen daughter had any interest in it. The only place I have found .22 LR ammo is online recently. Walmart may be catching up just now, but I still haven't seen any around here. So you have been putting energy and time into it but in the wrong place - just like I did for months with calls to Walmart and countless trips.

If you really want some ammo get into the Ammo Finds thread and check out slickguns.com, etc... if it is THAT important to you we are telling you how to do it. What more do want? Even if you do it at night for an hour or two intermittently, you can amass a pile of .22 that will keep your kids shooting.

The people who intend to use all the ammo they buy are preparing, not hoarding. They are pretty smart.

This right here..... In the last month I've purchased at least 5000 rounds, and also turned on others to the finds in the ammo finds thread. Some days are slow, but other days it's hard to keep up with all the links being posted. Find a link, (gander is my go to right now) and bookmark in your favorites list of all the brands you buy. It takes me about 6 minutes to go through my list of ammo links. Others have turned me on to good finds too in the same thread. It's all about playing the game.
What I don't understand is the complaining about people stocking up? Does anyone remember the handgun ammo bill they tried to pass in 2008? I remember standing in line at the Cow Palace gun show for an hour and a half in the Miwall line to buy 2000 rounds of 9mm. After the bill was called unconstitutional, I told myself I'm not doing that again. Now it's time to keep stocking up because it's happening again. I hope people are thinking about more than ammo too...medical supplies, non-perishable food, water, fuel, etc.

Why would they care? They can just increase the price of their ammo then and sell for more.

Look at a company like debeers (the diamond b*stards). Keep supply low/steady and crank up profits per unit of production.

It won't lose them customers to increase the price, so why would they try and increase supply and risk the capital expenditures of more machines/rent/labor?

Ammo ain't diamonds. Some people do NEED ammo. Non one needs decorative diamonds. Further, DeBeers had much of the market to themselves -- they owned and controlled the diamond mines. That's slowly starting to open up a little bit.

Capacity will be increased at some point. I don't think it's going to be one of the huge makers though. I think it will be an entrepreneur with very low overhead selling on tight margins.

We've only just recently purchased 22s. Around mid-August we were coming back from getting the first 22 out of jail, and calling all the Wallyworlds and LGS's to try and find ammo - only one Wallyworld within 30 miles had some. We bought 3 boxes of 350rds for $65 at Wallyworld ($0.0619/rd) - which was total luck score as I'd been trying for a the past 10 days.

During the 10 days, as I was seeing that finding it in stock locally was very difficult, I ordered online as well. Gunbot or whatever showed the cheapest at $0.1186/rd, which at the time was Palmetto State Armory, (which is totally sold out right now). My biggest complaint here isn't the price (at least I could buy some then), but was that it took 3 weeks to get delivered. I guess I'm just too used to 3-4 day shipping turn-around with most ground/economy shipping. But, again, glad I was able to get some at Wallyworld. Oh, and to minimize cost, as the shipping was $7 for 1-16 boxes, I bought 16 boxes for 50 rds. At 17 boxes the shipping went up another cost. So, be sure to calculate the shipping costs in there as well, as I don't think most of those online search tools are taking that into mind.

But the good news is that now that we have a couple 22s, we're shooting them a lot more and not burning through our 9mm ammo. I'll just shoot a mag or two of 9mm now after an hour of shooting 22. Of course, we're also trying to keep a family of 6 regularly shooting, so finding good cheap ammo is that much more important. I'm not sure Tulammo counts either (all I've been able to find at the local Wallyworlds for 9mm lately) :/

It's funny that everytime Walmart gets a truck, especially with 22lr, it shows up on Craigs list and on here. Where I'm at its allways the same guys showing up for it and I'm starting to think they don't even shoot. In fact I've found some of them selling it on here. This is why ammo, 22 for that matter, will never sit on the shelf. Guys like me have to buy as often as we can so we don't end up having to buy from these clowns. It's a damn shame cause even with the hoarding going on there would be some ammo sitting on the shelves. Stop buying from the flippers and they will drop out.
