When I figured it out I didn't have much more than a partial 550 round bulk pack of Federal from ten years ago and a few random boxes of subsonic, Aguilla SS, etc... maybe 1000 rounds of .22 LR.

I started buying online and was grateful for $3-$4 a box Thunderbolt at a FIVE box limit - not even a whole brick at a time. The local range had CCI Blazer sometimes and Thunderbolts for $5 per box limit 5.

It is looking better now. Bucket of Bullets@.053 if you buy two, etc... and we can turn our nose up at bricks of Thunderbolt for $22. I am pretty sure Gander's sale last night was limit TEN, which is their daily box limit in general per customer. Some people probably got 14000 rounds of GB's. Hopefully we won't see Lucky Gunner selling these off@$200 a bucket. Most people can't invest $700 into a boatload of .22 LR. On deals like buckets, maybe a limit of ONE would be better - I think it would be more fair. Selling out in ten minutes is crazy - especially at 11:30pm. Then again if it is an individual who feels like he can't go shooting and his guns are worthless without ammo because he has NONE... that's the guy I want to score the 14000 rounds. Some people don't have time to check the forum and four different web pages all day long.

My reserve is for me and my family. I give ammo away a lot to Uncles and cousins. If I do "resell" any it would be to my uncle at a loss because he does the same for me.
I'm the only person in my family that has an in interest in shooting. I did take my dad out to the desert, which after many years of hibernation, his .357 "finally got the rust knocked off the barrel" is how he put it. I decidedly took the plunge on a .22 1911 after realizing that shooting .45 can get quite pricey. I have a couple thousand rounds stored away, but after a trip out to BLM land tomorrow, I will probably get my guns cleaned and stored away for an unknown amount of time. This ammo "crisis" really takes the fun out of target practice/gun ownership.

I'd start buying up more ammo, but my budget has just been blown after my recent purchase of a vintage water-cooled VW project (been interested in VW's longer than I've been into shooting), plus, I'm not always at my computer at work and I have no internet at home to catch the late-night deals.

          Good luck to you.
I pay less per round for Eley Target $.12 per round shipped, much better ammo. Better to look for quality ammo as much of it is the same or lower priced than bulk. Sellers of match ammo don't seem to be gouging like other vendors. Remember there is a recall on Thunderbolts too.

To some of us (most of us in CA I bet) it isn't hoarding so much as getting in front of yet more stupid legislation. I mean, we can be 100% sure that the Ds in Sacto will cause ammo prices to rise, so why not buy it while it's relatively cheaper?

I was out of the hobby in hibernation too. I got into it before the first AW ban... my uncle, cousin, and I had 10/22's and MarkII's... and I might have had a Ruger Mini-14 and P95 back then. We got un-neutered AR's before the deadline. I basically stopped shooting because it was getting tiresome to fire so much money into the dirt - we went shooting every week. We needed some moderation.

Just recently I go the itch to shoot again, and bought a new pistol, Shotgun, .22 rifle, and two .22 conversions. I am going to enjoy it again with more moderation... and the expensive ammo will ensure that.

I am also hoping to get my C&R again in time to score a few deals before that is mucked up in this state like everything else.

I just came back from the range, (Los Altos), there was a good crowd today.
Way more than the last 3 times that I have gone there. I was there for
a little over 4 hours and during that time there were only two people shooting
.22, myself and another guy. Everything else was .223 or 308.
Not sure if that indicates anything or not.

Agreed. Personally, I don't think 20k rounds is too much given the situation. That sounds like a good reserve to keep in storage plus whatever range ammo level you feel comfortable with on top of that.

I've got 5k of Golden Bullets alone and will be adding to that pile.

It's really nice to have about a two year supply, whatever that means to you. It means you can ride out shortages, and if we're going to be reduced to an annual road trip to Reno to get good prices it means you only have to do it once a year without running low.

That being said with inflation being what it is if somebody wants to stack it high and deep that's cool too. Good investment, especially if you're getting stuff that's likely to dry up in the future (surplus ammo mostly).
