UPS dropped off my 3-9x40mm BDC scope today. All I can say is I am astounded by the clarity and brightness of this scope. Now tempted to get the Target EFR model.

I don't regret burning some bridges. I regret that some people weren't on those bridges when I burnt them!

If you are only going to target shoot then get the Target EFR model, if not then get the same as I did, the BDC model. If you just want to plink out to 50 yds or so the 4x will work fine. Remeber that a 3-9x can be alot more useful down the road than a 4x.

              Here are the major differences.

              1. Reticles (crosshairs). The 4X has a duplex or just a plain crosshair. The BDC has a reticle that compensates for bullet drop at various distances. The Target EFR has a reticle like the 4X except that it has a small dot at the center of the crosshairs which is really good for shooting targets but not so good for hunting.

              2. Magnification. The 4X is fixed, no adjustment. The other two are variable from 3X up to 9X so they are better for longer distances.

              3. Parallax. The 4X and the 3-9X BDC scopes have the parallax preset to 50yds. The Target EFR parallax can be adjusted from 10yds to infinity. Rather than trying to explain the technical aspects of parallax go here for an explanation: http://www.6mmbr.com/parallax.html
Basically fixed parallax scopes are used for hunting/plinking while an adjustable parallax scope is best for target shooting where more precision is needed.

For specifications on the 3 scopes go to: http://www.nikonhunting.com/products...copes/prostaff

              Hope that helps.

Holy smokes this is a good deal!

I've got the 4x32 on a 10/22 and love it. I've wanted to pick-up a 3-9x40 for it, another 3-9x40 for the 10/22 TD that's coming, and move the 4x32 to my M6.

$200 for 2 brand-new Nikon scopes with full lifetime warranties? Sign me up!!!

                Izzy43, thanks for the tip!

*EDIT* Wait, $260 for 2 brand-new Nikon scopes with full lifetime warranties and EFR and adj. parallax? Sign me up!!!

You will never, in your life, have a chance like this again.
If I were you, I would not pass this up. I would not let this go by...this is rare.

what would be the best scope for the 17 hmr ? my girl has the new sav 17hmr and we put the bsa sweet 17 on and that was a mess got two of them both where broke i put my 4/12 bushnell on it works for now but it seems like it should be a tac driver at 100yrds ?? she wants something that she can see the target clear at 100 yds any tips?

I'll give you my opinion but keep in mind that it may not be what you need as we all have different ideas what "the best scope" means.

                      1. Spend as much money as you can afford on a name brand scope, such as Weaver, Clearidge, Sightron, Nikon, Vortex or Leupold as they will last a lifetime and have good warranties and customer service. No BSA, NCstar or other inexpensive Chinese made scope.
                      2. Minumum 20x Magnification. (so you can see bullet holes @100yds)
                      3. Adjustable Objective (for parallex error)
                      4. Sacrifice magnification for quality glass if cost becomes an issue. In other words by a high quality 3-9x scope instead of a low quality 6-24x scope.

My Savage .17HMR wears a Vortex Crossfire 8-32x50mm AO scope. It will be replaced at some point with a higher quality scope, probably from Vortex. Right now it shoots 1"-5 shot groups at 100yds when I do my part but I have to limit the magnification to 28x as the scope begins to darken beyond that.

If you want to get by as inexpensively as possible then that's a different answer.

You really should visit a gunshop that has a variety of scopes and compare them before buying. I've been through the BSA scopes and its hit and miss, mostly miss.

Izzy- You got this one for $149?

I currently have a cheap 4x12x40 (I think) scope which seems to work OK but is blurry at full magnification. Even if I back it down some it's hard to see .22 target holes at 50 yards. Are these Nikons clear at full magnification?

                        What about rings and covers?

The BDC version that I have is very, very clear and does not change from 3-9X. I just mounted the scope on my Kimber 82G using medium rings and works fine and bolt clears the rear of the scope by 1/4" and has 1/4" clearance from the barrel in the front. The scope came with lens covers, one of those bungy type.

I haven't shot with it yet so can't answer the "see bullet holes @ 50yds" question but I'll know by tomorrow after I shoot. I intend to do a pretty full review on the scope and especially the BDC reticle functionality and how it works at various distances.

So you did or didn't order the one I linked to?

Anyone have a suggestion for decent rings?

Yes, I got the one that you linked to. Here are the rings that I used to mount the scope on my Kimber: http://www.leapers.com/prod_detail.p...emno=RGPM-25M4

I am using these rings on 3 different rifles, .22lr, .22WMR and .17HMR without issue. They never move. I have the ones I linked to, a 30MM tube version and a high set just in case. I have not had any windage or elevation problems with any of these rings and they have a small piece of material inside each ring to prevent ring marks on the scope and they are inexpensive.

I like the 2 screws that mount them to the rail and the 4 screws that mount the scope to the rings, very secure.
