Nikon Rimfire Scope Rebates

What is weird is that I opened this thread as a Nikon hunting commercial shows up on the TV. Must be telling me to buy a rimfire scope.

What do you guys think the effective range of a Ruger 10/22 with the 3-9/40 EFR scope would be?

I think you may be right about the list. I am getting an uneasy feeling that Nikon may not honor the rebate if purchased from a vendor (such as OpticsPlant as I did) thats not on the list you posted. Guess I'll find out when I submit the rebate form.

Kind of cheesy the way Nikon did the requirements for listing the dealers. They didn't really list them as " Authorized Dealers " but as "Participating Dealers". I think a lawyer could convince a judge that it was missleading but whose gonna sue of $50, certainly not me. One of those buyer beware "Gotchas". Hopefully others read your post before buying.

I like the EFR features EXCEPT the reticle. It seems to only have the "Preciscion Reticle" which is basically a big dot in the middle of the cross hair http://www.nikonhunting.com/products...n_Reticle/6734

I would have preferred the BDC 150 reticle which seems to offer more precision and seems better suited for shooting at various distances. Seems weird to offer an adjustable objective (which is only good for shooting at varying distances) and not offer the reticle DESIGNED for that type of shooting as well.

So is this efr a no go for long distance precision shooting (in 22lr standards of precision and long distance)? For the money anything better?

Would the scope with the BDC rectile or the EFR model work with 17hmr? Or are they pretty much designed for the 22lr specs? I need to get a scope for my new savage 17hmr. I was originally looking at the Buckmaster line. I'm new to scopes so don't know what to look for.

You might find that a 3-9X scope comes up short when used on a 17HMR. You will not be able to see bullet holes @ 100yds as an example. I believe the Nikon BDC scope would be fine for hunting out to 100yds but not for precision work such as targets.

The Spot On program at nikonhunting.com does support .17HMR ammo of various types for calibrating the BDC reticle. I think it just depends on how you intend to use the scope. Fine for target work out to 50 yds and plinking/hunting out to 100 yds.

I will be mounting the scope on my Savage .17HMR but only to see how it functions then an 8-32x will go back on the .17HMR as I use it for long range target work. I suspect the BDC scope will find a home on one of my .22 rifles.

I would say a 4x32 or a 3-9x32..
