Turners in Reseda...UNFRIENDLY!

WoW! Sorry for the unfortunate experience... I once worked at Turners Pasadena as a weekend job in the mid 90's and I definitely enjoyed working with customers.

Sheesh, with the high unemployment rate here in California you would think one would appreciate their jobs even more... I know I would considering being currently unemployed.

Turner's Reseda has been kinda a mixed bag for me...I had to wait 1/2 hr.+ to take the silly HSC test, and then wait again to look @ a pistol...they were busy that day.
On the other hand, I've been there on slow days and just sorta hung out, shooting the bull and telling war stories w/ the employees and other customers.

My biggest gripe is their ignorance of programs they're associated with... I took a pistol course from FTA... Turner's endorses the program, accepts payment for it, and gives a discount on ammo purchased for the class. All of these facts are presented in a flier on the gun counter... Yet none of the employees knew anything about it...after 35 minutes of phone calls, faxes, and management discussions, I was good to go....dammit.

I agree, the normal response at the Reseda store is "cool", but I have been happy with their services and will continue to use them when i need to. The Pasadena store I have found more "friendly" and excellent in service.

Went to Ammo Bros Cerritos today to PPT another gun and they were MORE than nice to me and the seller.

just picked up my G17 last week, and i no issues with the salesperson that was helping me. On the other hand i saw another salesperson whom seemed to be annoyed by a costumer every time he asked to look at a handgun and asked questions.

I have had both good and bad service at the Reseda Turners. While I don't expect them to become my "best" friends after a purchase I think it's not asking to much to at least be given decent friendly service to not only make the customer feel like he would like to come back and spend more money with your store (which I would think they would want) but I believe in at this time in this state when they are trying to take so much away from us a business that deals in guns would rather come across as normal and friendly rather than rude and unfriendly. This is California where image is everything and we all need to promote the best we can for our cause and right.

From what little experience I've had behind the customer service counter (not firearm related) I can tell you there are a lot of "winners" out there and it's all you can do to smile and lie to them. But you do it anyway because that's what the job is. Don't like it quit.

On the other hand in such a specialized marketplace like the California gun biz I'm inclined to take offense at any shop who treats me like a punk just for the privilage of paying their 20% markup.

I don't want to be his range buddy but I shouldn't have to be his b**ch either. So I don't do business with them.

I went to Turners in Reseda today to pick up a rim-fire rifle that was in 10 day jail. The place wasn't busy at all with only 3 customers including me. I went to the counter with my paperwork and when recognized by a salesperson I said I was here to pickup a rifle and handed him my paperwork.

He went in the back and came out a few minutes later and laid the box on the counter. He proceeded to do the pickup paperwork while I inspected the rifle. This whole time he barely said 2 words to me. There was no warmth nor appreciation for my business, it was as if he was annoyed that I was even taking up his time.

Then he handed me a packet of papers and said "take these to the cashier to confirm the pickup then come back here to get your rifle."

The cashier was reading a book and seemed bothered that I needed her assistance. She review my paperwork then rubber stamped it and sent me back to the counter. While I was gone no more than 60 seconds the salesperson helping me disappeared. The only other salesperson was talking to a customer. My rifle was right there behind the counter. I said, "excuse me sir, I just want my rifle that is right there, here is my paperwork". He said "I'll be right with you". I said, "look, I waited to buy this thing, I waited my 10 days, the guy who was just helping me has disappeared so please hand me my rifle, here is your paperwork so I can be on my way, thanks". He gave me the rifle, took my paperwork and off I went.

For me, you just described the perfect Turner's gun store pick-up experience. Preferably, I want the same "human experience" in going to a Turner's as I might get going to a soda-vending machine - that would be ideal. I just don't have time to be the chain-store-gun-store jockey's best man.

It sounds like everything went smoothly - do you realize how many times there is trouble with the paperwork, the gun not matching the paperwork, obscure issues and other madness? Do you realize how infuriating it is when the chit-chat about the gun I'm buying, laws, calibers, how to accessorize, gets in the way of the paperwork being finalized? Now there are some salesmen at specific stores who I have come to know through my purchases; and these gentlemen are life-long collectors of high-end rare items like myself, highly knowledgable; I DO want to talk with them or listen IF I have the time.

However, your experience is all most people ever hope for or want as a customer from Turner's - I'd even say you got lucky!! Hello, thanks for the gun, goodbye - see you the next time I purchase a gun.
