IF you really must shoot glass bottles, take a box, lay it on it's side facing you. Put the bottle at the back of the box, shoot the bottle. All/most of the bottles stay in the box. Just don't unload on it so much you punch out the back.
If you NEED to have exploding targets, shoot ice or produce. I've also made targets out of flour. Mix with water, form and dry.

Go to the 99 Cents Only Stores and buy melons, bags of apples or red potatoes etc. Cheap targets that you can leave behind for the local wildlife.

Walmart sells a big case of orange biodegradible clay pigeons for around $13.

Shooting glass bottles on public land is a horrible idea. Would you break glass bottles on your lawn? Why would you do on public land then?

Life can make you do many things, even kiss a man with a runny nose.

yeah thanks guys I decided to try the water jugs.

but what I really want to try is the cheap soda cans left in the sun. That seems like a lot of fun.

As a kid I used to shoot glass with my red rider. There were family dumps so it was not a big deal. It sure was fun.

My favorite desert targets are cans of whichever is cheaper. Beer or soda. Sometimes beer is cheaper!

Leave in sun and shake before shooting. Cans explode and are easy to pick up.

bowling pins are great, they can take so many rounds b4 they actually start to come apart, 5 pins and you have plenty of scattered targets to keep you busy for a day.
