Here's how I make my splody targets.
Take a one gallon milk jug fill with water and a little red food coloring.
Insert one end of a 3' length piece of kite string into each section of the tray.
Pour the red water into ice cube trays and freeze solid.
Remove from trays when frozen and store in the freezer.
        Voila!
Perfect biodegradable hanging targets that will satisfy the red mist shooters and help keep your choice of beverage cold at the same time.

BLM specifically says NOT to shoot glass. They recommend paper targets, but the idea is to "tread lightly" and "leave no trace"... steel targets are fine.

Whatever you take with you, bring it back. That goes for brass, shot shells, wadding cups, broken clays, broken bottles, etc....
We've got good shooting areas all over the state being shut down all the time because of the litter.
+ infinity! Too many dip****s do not pick up after themselves. I always come home with WAY more trash than our group generates when we go out. Very annoying to say the least.

YES 100% you could break bottles with a .22 caliber firearm...

But truly only jacka*ses (I am not calling you that for thinking to use them) use glass or similarly messy to clean up targets.... There are so many better things to use that ARE BIODEGRADABLE and will not be there in a day or 5.

Or better yet TAKE out what you bring in. Its so easy to do this...

I say this unless your just a brainless wonder that thinks we will have places to shoot at in the future if we continue to leave messes at shooting areas.

Ever pull glass out of your foot? Animals can't and usually die from infection or the glass moving around in their body. Shoot water jugs or Soda. Here's what a 270 win mag does to a 2 gallon jug..

Glass is just a bad idea. My favorite .22 target is a potatoe. Cheap to shoot, biodegradeable, food for the critters, and highly satisfying target to vaporize especially with Hollow Points! c good

How long do the "remains" from clays last? Looking at ranges from Google Earth, the ground is a mass of orange... but when shooting on BLM, is it advisable to pick up the clays, or only the shells and wadding?

We pick ours up, but it's a PITA and really makes me shy away from shotgun practice. Are they going to dissolve with the first heavy rain, or are they more durable and more glass-like?

If you hit the clays then the small pieces usally degrade after a coupl good rains.
If i'm on BLM i'll go and stomp the remains to get them down a bit.

+1. There is no way to clean up ALL the glass. Shoot cans, milk jugs, fruit, whatever. Not glass
