a 22 will go through a beer bottle at any range you cab hit the bottle. i think you are definately under estimating the round. If you could hit someone at 300 yards with it, it would still be lethal if a chest, head shot.

Don't forget to clean up the mess when you're done. I'd rather shoot at cans. You can shoot them again and again and again - and watch them bounce and fly. Shooting glass, meh, one time gratification. Try eggs. Those are fun, and challenging. Hide them like ground squirrels or dye them like Easter Eggs.

I'm not having a glass of wine, I'm having SIX. It's called a tasting and it's classy.

            +1

Eggs and other food products are biodegradable, but I would still pick up the large pieces.
BLM specifically says NOT to shoot glass. They recommend paper targets, but the idea is to "tread lightly" and "leave no trace"... steel targets are fine.

Whatever you take with you, bring it back. That goes for brass, shot shells, wadding cups, broken clays, broken bottles, etc....
We've got good shooting areas all over the state being shut down all the time because of the litter.

If you can hit it that far.

shooting at glass bottles will generally shatter them. There was this one time when i shot a beer bottle with my gsg5 and it didn't shatter the bottle but the bullet went straight through it.

Had that happen a few times with plastic 16oz water bottles.

Pretty funny to think you missed because it didn't even move, then look again though the scope and see the hole cleanly centered.

My favorite plinking target is golf balls , A good hit and they will really take off , Be sure to put your best effort in finding them afterwards as I hate to go to place that is trashed , I suggest not shooting glass as it will get left behind.

Beer bottles are not good targets, it gives us gunlovers a bad name.

Fill up your empty cans with water and shoot them, they really fly up in the air that way. Much easier to clean up than glass.

Buy a flat of the cheapest, crappiest soda and then just leave it in the sun for a couple hours.

NOW shoot the stuff. It's quite impressive, easy to clean up, and leaves a little snack for the local wildlife.
