What do you guys do to prevent FTEs (Type 2 malf) on these guns. The one my friend has has them every once in a while.
I think one of the reasons is grabbing it near the mag. But is there anything else we can do? Perhaps run it wet or something?sigpic

Clean the extracter recesses on the barrel very well and make sure that the chamber is cleaned well too when you clean the rifle. Don't run wet. Just a little dab will do ya on the lube. The 795 doesn't need alot of lube.Comment

So Big 5 has the 795 on sale right now for $164.99 (or $139.99 after the $25 MIR). Does anyone know what Big 5's lowest price recently on the 795?
I know it's pretty cheap as is, but it sucks paying ~$140, when places like Turners, Bass Pro or Dick's has this rifle around $100 after rebate.Comment

A guy on rimfirecentral recommended sanding out the paint overspray in the receiver with 600 grit sandpaper. Seems the flakes that fall off from there could gum up the action. This was one of the 1st things I did when I got mine, and fired fairly well even with Thunderduds (about 10 FTF, 1 FTE out of 500 rounds). Still, I'm gonna stick to CCI Blazers from now on.

Mine seems to like the CCI Blazers as well. It hates the Remington green box stuff (Golden Bullet?), and the Winchester red box stuff. Anything with a truncated dome head will FTF. Also, when you are holding the rifle, if the magazine bears on your wrist or forearm, it misaligns the mag just enough to cause it to fail to feed.

Not so good:

Woo-Hoo!
Joined the ranks today! Picking it up on June 7th. I've been watching these for so long in the Big 5 ads, and the price is only going up so I figured I'd better get it now. I held of for a long time waiting to find a good price on a used one (any .22lr rifle), but never found anything worth it. I'd still like to find a cheap .22lr pistol to compliment it, but I think that will wait until I find a good deal.Comment

Ey guys based on your experience, should I go with CCI Blazer or Federal Automatch for this gun? Or do you have a better recommendation?
Also, standard velocity is recommended for paper targets and indoor ranges, no?My lonely arsenal: Marlin 795 .22lr
Shopping list: Mosin-Nagant 91/30, Hi-Point 995 9mm Carbine

Funny, the stuff we've shot through my friend's 795 is the Winchester 333 stuff, and we've only experienced occasional type 2 malfs. I've run a number of CCI Blazer through it myself, with 0 incidents.
Thanks guys, for the reminder to clean the extractor recesses/bolt face.sigpic

Wow this thread is over 2 years old.Comment

When I first started the thread I figured I wasn't the only one who bought one of these and there were other Calgunners who might like to discuss them and put up some pics, I did not realize I was creating this monster thread
Anyway, I'm glad everyone has enjoyed it, I still follow it and I must say, everyone who shoots my little 795 comes away impressed by it! I think Marlin must owe me royalties by now as I'm sure this thread has helped sell 1000s of these!
