Finally took it to the range...

Hey guys,

I finally took mine to an indoor range (Reeds) and shot it at the max distance (25 yards) and this thing was super accurate. This was my first time shooting a 22, and I must say, it was super fun to shoot (esp since I had a 4-9x scope on it). This gun is pretty friggen accurate too, as I think I had 2-3" groupings and thats with me shooting standing up (no bipods or nothing) and using the cheap Remington ammo (never buying this one again, as there were 1-2 duds out of the ~200 rounds I put through it).

The only gripe I had was that when I was cleaning it (first time cleaning it, didn't clean it new), it was super dirty (probably the ammo)... in fact, I'd say it was dirtier than how dirty my 1911 gets. Also, the blackened finish inside the receiver was being scratched by the bolt... Is that normal?

I'm a cheap bastard (in no rush) and will wait for the $100 (after rebate) sale...

Yeah, put me in this boat as well - I know it's a great gun, but I think it's a greater one at $100. Plus I've got my old Remington 522 Viper to tide me over (HA, 'memba them?). It's too bad that 2 magazines for that rifle will cost me as much as a new Marlin - but I digress

I painted mine khaki. It looks ok. I'm torn between buying a wood stock, or just shooting the crap out of it like I've been doing. I just can't justify buying a wood stock that costs half as much as the gun!

yeah, that is normal. the finish in there is pretty bad but it makes no difference in performance or durability. as far as deep cleaning i took mine completely apart once and cleaned it up really well and that was after 1k rounds. other than that i just run a bore snake and put a rag and some qtips in the receiver to get some gunk out. the owners manual actually says the bore never needs to be cleaned. haha.

Personally I hate these damn rebates. They make you jump through hoops for 25.00 then I've seen them come back and say sorry yxz was missing you'll have to resubmit, and then your screwed because you sent in the original sales receipt as required.

Most rebates to me are scams unless its given at the time of sale. I just ignore most rebates and figure I'm paying what I 'm paying.

Just installed my DIP Trigger Guard and Target Trigger Kit. LOVE IT! The adjustable trigger alone is worth the cost. All of the pre-travel/creep is GONE. Trigger break is clean and crisp, and the trigger feels very nice under the finger.

Dying to take it to the range.

Finally picked mine up Friday afternoon. Took it, and the Mosin to P2k along with my girlfriend. It definitely shoots nice and has a nice little amount of recoil as well. Definitely nice to give my shoulder a break. She totally loved it, enough so that I plan on getting her one some time this year. We put about 300 rounds of cheap blazer bulk ammo through it and had zero issues. Now it's apart for a paint job. Gotta love the 5 buck krylon Cammo paint.

Yea...unfortunately that happened to me. I eventually said ****-it! Considering it was part of the reason I bought it...its a bit of a sore subject for me.

Do I regret choosing the 795 over the 10/22 (partly because of the rebate)...not at all.

When I purchased my rifle from Dick's they printed out an extra reciept for me to send in with the rebate form that they also gave me at the register. No hoops to really jump though. Just the cost of a stamp. Took about 8 weeks to get the rebate. I took the check and used it to buy some ammo.
Any time I can get $25 for the cost of a stamp... you bet ya I will take the 2 minutes to fill in the blanks on a piece of paper.
If any one doesn't want to send in thier rebate forms... just send me the reciept for the gun and the UPC label, I will dispose of them properly for you.

What is the typical accuracy to expect from a standard 795?

795 cheapie ammo and a 7x20 old scope and walmart rings off one of my other rifles. I had 20 shots in a 1" square no flyers at 25 yards.

This was the first time out also.
