Thinking about buying a 10/22...

What'd you end up getting? I'm in the same boat. There's the Dick's $199 for the blued one and $100 more for the stainless. Not sure if it's worth the extra, but maintenance isn't my strong suit.

If the barrel rusts, $100 goes a long way toward a good aftermarket stainless barrel.

Looks aside, is there any advantage to the SS barrel?

I like the SS model because I like the idea of a low maintenance .22lr. I've got a blued one too and I guess I haven't had any rust issues, but I do have to keep it oiled.

Nice little rifles, you'll want to get the Volquartzen type bolt release upgrade right away IMHO. Just makes life easier.

You might want to make some minor upgrades. Stock, trigger, sights, mag release, bolt release, barrel. firing pin, firing pin spring and maybe bolt. And maybe look at aftermarket receiver.

I like my 10/22. But next 22lr will be a Marlin 795. Or a Henry Pump with Octagon barrel or Taurus 62.

Get the blued one. If it rusts, pick up a stainless takeoff barrel in the Marketplace.

The beauty of this method is that when you're done, you have a souped up 10/22 and also a stock 10/22 that you can start upgrading....

Get both a 10/22 and a Marlin Model 60, because they are both great rifles.

Mine shoot just great without all the fancy "kool-aid" modifications. I have more fun with them than most of my other rifles.

The .22 is popular for a reason. They are fun to shoot, and just about anyone can shoot them.

This is my 11 year old granddaughter's collection. A Smith and Wesson 15/22, a Ruger 10/22, a Crickett, and a Ruger SR-22. Except for the 10/22, the Muddy Girl Camo came from the factory. I had the 10/22 stock hydro dipped at CounterStrike Firearms in Hemet for $75. She loves the Muddy Girl camo patteren and has ear muffs, range bag, rifle case, and pistol rug in that pattern.

What scope and mount system are you using on the 10/22? I'm looking to add a scope to my daughters 10/22 compact. I have a Redfield 2x7x33 (11" & 11oz.) that I could use. Looking to keep the weight down if possible.

Get one they're great. I have a few but my two favorites are my M&P 15-22 and my ruger takedown. (I'm waiting for the new magpul takedown stock)
