Thinking about buying a 10/22...

Almost pulled the trigger tonight on the basic blued barrel model with a synthetic stock at $260, but decided I'd shop around a bit more. Thus far I've been able to find a wood-stocked one for $250, which is tempting, but I'd prefer a synthetic stock. Is this about as low as it's going to get for a new one?

I've seen the stainless ones at Big 5 at that price when on sale. Alternately you can also check the Davidson's gallery of guns and see what your local shops will charge you.

pretty much, you might find one cheaper online, but the transfer fees usually mess that up. turners has them on sale every once in a while also

Actually with the Davidson's gun genie thing, you enter your zip code and the FFLs that have an account will essentially "bid" or give an offer inclusive of all the fees. So it's actually not bad at all. I was looking last night as well 😉

most importantly, DO end up getting the 10/22. its a fantastic little gun, eats any high velocity ammo (will even shoot standard or "subsonic" rounds if you want to manually cycle) tons of fun and cheap to shoot. I tend to shoot my 22LR more than my other calibers when I go to the range

If not cleaned and stored properly a blued barrel will show rust spots. Stainless can handle more neglect.

I have no rust on my 1998 blued 10/22, or my dad's 1972 blued 10/22.

To the OP get a 10/22 they are a lot of fun. I had a Marlin 70 at one point, sold it and bought a 10/22.

I prefer my stainless just because if I don't clean it for a couple weeks after a range trip I don't have to worry. Well, now that I replaced the charging handle with a stainless (or aluminum?) Kidd I don't. Learned that one the hard way.

I have a 40th anniversary edition and a 50th .......when cleaning them , I can't help but think I like the quality more in the 40th edition ........aside from that , they both shoot well for a stock 10-22

Oh, I know. I rented one awhile back and really enjoyed it. Thought it was a lot more fun to shoot than the bolt and lever-action .22s I'd shot before; just seemed way more accurate with it. The only change I'd be looking to make to it would be some Tech Sights.

FWIW my 50th came with factory peeps.
The 50th edition can be confusing as there was a 1st edition a 2nd edition and even a fan favorite or what ever they called it.
Plus it came with a $25 rebate to use at the ruger store which gave me a spare mag for free..............
