Thinking about buying a 10/22...

Unbiased AR15, Barnard (sold
), BAT, Borden, Browning, Kelbly, Marsh, Nesika Bay, Remington, Ruger, Savage, Ultralight Arms owner. I like 'em all. -
If I were to get another 22 semi-auto. I would look at the Marlin 795 first.
10/22 are nice. after you replace the trigger, sights, barrel, mag release... 10/22 is not a bad rifle out of the box. But they're not great either. Unless you replace the trigger etc...Comment

For $10 get the synthetic like you want. You will spend more than that difference in ammo very soon. Loads of fun. Everybody should own at least one 10/22!Almost pulled the trigger tonight on the basic blued barrel model with a synthetic stock at $260, but decided I'd shop around a bit more. Thus far I've been able to find a wood-stocked one for $250, which is tempting, but I'd prefer a synthetic stock. Is this about as low as it's going to get for a new one?

I'd look at the Marlin model 60, maybe try and get the 50th anniversary model if you can find one, I prefer wood stocks over plastic.
I like my 10/22 but I don't care much for a 22 that uses mags. I'd rather have a tube fed gun.
Just a thought for you.
Marlin 60 .22 LR semi-auto rifle with wood stock and blued steel. 19-inch barrel, 14+1 capacity, cross-bolt safety.

That is so true. Ammo will make the original cost difference become irrelevant very quickly. Especially the 10/22. That little bugger eats more ammo than you can believe. Of course that is one thing that makes it so much fun.

Thanks! Got the last one in stock at the local Dick's. For $70 in savings, I can deal with a wood stock instead on synthetic. After all, the savings pay for the tech sights.Check Dicks Sporting Goods for the basic blued carbine on sale. $199

Exactly. A 10/22 is a terrific rifle. Personally I very much prefer the wood stock to the synthetic, but it is a matter of personal preference.most importantly, DO end up getting the 10/22. its a fantastic little gun, eats any high velocity ammo (will even shoot standard or "subsonic" rounds if you want to manually cycle) tons of fun and cheap to shoot. I tend to shoot my 22LR more than my other calibers when I go to the range

Lurk around the pawnshops for some. I bought a basic wood stock one at a pawn shop and got a bull barrel for it. Accuracy is awesome, boring even! You can make an argument about bolt actions being inherently more accurate, but I have no issues hitting the bulls eye at 100 yards. You will enjoy it. I actually have two to share the fun.Comment

Get it
10-22's have tons of aftermarket support and anybody can tinker with them. I took a beater that had been in the family and scrapped everything but the receiver. I built a cool little HB target rifle for my niece. Everything just dropped in.Comment

buy a cheap used even beat up one. strip it down sell off the old parts and build a custom one. I had a stock one for about 20 years fun little gun finally got the itch to redo it only thing original now is the bolt and receiver. its deadly accurate now and really didn't cost to much.Comment

I did the exact same thing. Totally reinvested my interest in shooting it.Comment
