.22 lr ammo availability improving?
Collapse

The OP asked a question and people are answering his question.
Most shooters stop by there local gun shop on the way to the range looking for plinking ammo.
Others here took offense to those who said ammo in there area of the state has not returned to its previous levels.
That is an endictment on our education system that they don't understand the question as asked.
Maybe a new thread asking about internet purchases would help those not understanding this post is in order?Lynn Dragoman, Jr.

That's one way to look at it, hahahahahah.Sorry, but I will laugh at you if the market finally becomes glutted and 22lr drops to 5 cents or less per round with availability everywhere. I'm sure you old salts will just be ornery and hang on to your cache of ammo till you die anyway. But the game will be over and you flippers will be DONE. Good riddance.
Sick of this artificial shortage. Get another hobby.
But really it is called planning ahead. Some people are better at it than others and some people just get lucky and buy when the buying is good.
I doubt prices will drop below what most smart shoppers paid for bulk stuff and CCI's... or SK, WOLF, Lapua, etc... (.045 to .08 range for me and maybe a case of .10 SK's). Bucket of Bullets will still be $70 or $80.
Factoring in Cabela's points, I had quite a few small orders that averaged out (.01-.03 per round shipped free).
If my kid gets what is left because I can't shoot it all, great. That means I had a lifetime supply accumulated in a year or so, and he gets some of it when I'm gone.Comment

I mentioned this on another thread, but Aesop's fable about the Ant and the Grasshopper applies. It's all about planning ahead. I don't consider myself an old timer, but maybe I am in years compared to many shooters, but I remember when the first wave of anti-gun laws started to come into effect, and I think a lot of people understood that the "winter" was coming. Now the winters are getting worse and longer. If you don't plan ahead, you're just setting yourself up. No use complaining about it in the middle of the winter if you didn't.Comment

Even back when the online thing broke wide open for a bit, the Cabela's deal was $28 for a 525 pack of Golden Bullets which was a better price per round than the buckets. Like .053 compared to .057 assuming shipping was free for both. Usually Gander had a flat shipping fee even if you ordered ten buckets which was the limit IIRC. CCI AR Tacticals were the best deal when they still had the 375 count packs. Now I'd just get the 100 round sliders.
Gander had the high limits and Cabelas had more free shipping deals, plus they usually let you get away with 3 dupe orders on a limit one item.
It seems worse now than when I was buying online 2 years ago - even though it may have recently got better than 6 months ago.
It looks like Gander just had a run of $79 Buckets sell out while everyone was here whining.Comment

Actually I think Cabela's price was $23.99 and usually we got it shipped with $5 flat rate so it was $29 shipped... but sometime you got the $24 shipped free, so .0457 per round one in a while. Free shipping deals seem to come up less now.
I hope it gets better soon. It would be nice to be able to just walk into Walmart and actually buy a brick and then go to the range again.Comment

If you order from Midway, don't forget the trick of ordering certain free shipping items that will lower the overall shipping for your ammo order. I always add something like this little multi-tool for around $3 which lowers the shipping total by around $6 (from the usual $13 to $7 for a brick for example). Net, you save ~$3-$4, and have a freebie tool. Most things that say "and ships free" next to the price work.^^

Arms Unlimited has Sellier and Bellot by the case for .0975 per round shipped. I don't know how great that is but it is a CASE (5000 rounds). Shipping is included @ $487.50

After our dear leader was re-elected I went to Turners and bought 14 bricks of Fed HP @ 17.95 a brick, I did not even own a .22. I already had a few bricks of Blazer at the same price. I then found a Glenfield Tube fed 18 shot rifle and bought that. I did not whine, I took action. I then went on line and found MM in 100 round sleeves at $4.99 with free shipping, stocked up on that. Now I have 3 .22 rifles which includes a CZ 452 and a Mark II pistol. I have plenty of .22 ammo so I shoot whenever I like for as long as I like. Last year I went to the range 20 times in one month. I have bought and traded, sold ammo all during the shortage as I upgraded my stock. It's called the free market. See you at the range.Comment

^ sounds like me. But I became so obesssed with 22 ammo they were overflowing my office and I felt like scrooge mcduck swimming in my 22s. Not gonna lie I fell victim to a lot of flippers because I wanted it now and didn't want to be patient and wait for stuff to come back in stock. I shoot mine often but started to sell off some stock to buy new guns (22s again) or trade for higher caliber. Its a hobby and I'm not in it to put my kids through college. Honestly I did the math I made like $10 last month selling ammo it's not even enough to cover all the gas money I spent driving around with my .22 obessession.Comment
