dkonrai, well done on the 10/22 purchase. That and the Marlin Model 60 are about the best .22 semi-autos out there, and reasonably priced. They are super-fun and (normally) the most economical rifles to shoot. I have trouble thinking of a better type of rifle for general marksmanship practice.

Since we're talking about a .22, you can get away with just about any cheap optic on there. My "Assault .22", as I affectionately call it (bone-stock 10/22) wears a cheapie Tasco 3-9x40 riflescope that I got from a friend for $10. My cameralady's 10/22 wears a $40 BSA scope, also 3-9x40. Both of these optics have served us very well. Would I put 'em on the .44 Mag levergun or a Rem 700 in .308 Winchester? No way. But on a .22LR, they're perfect.

        Uodate,
After three range tours, and probably 700 rounds... Accuracy is decent at 50 yards, however grouping. That trigger i think is keeping me from getting a decent group. And yes the crappy ammo im shooting too (gb).
4/1 i got some ebucks, and found a vendor on ebay who does trigger work like brimstone. So i sent the tcg monday, and will wait... again .... o my the wait continues....
I stuck on a centerpoint 4x16x40 i had laying around. Will probably order a nicer scope mount, but will do for the time being.

I could get really carried away. Think im going to polish the trigger, and do the poor mans hold open mod. Spent too much on 22' ammo lately. Not hoarding... well.... is 6000 rounds too much 22?
Pfft, instead of being a cheap plinker, that 10/22 will be the most expensive cheap rifle you'll own

Oh yeah, 6000 rounds is a drop in a bucket. I had few 5000 round weekends before

I shoot a lot when I do, so if you are collecting ammo steadily over time, I prefer to call that stockpiling. For example buying a brick or two every month over the course of several years, and accumulating what you don't shoot, then collecting 30K+ rounds in your ammo cache seems fine, and smart. If there's a shortage, and you panic and go out and buy everything available, then that's hoarding. Not good for your or anyone else. Same thing for primers, powder, cases and projectiles. Just my opinion.

Arrrggghhhh my problem? i keep shooting my stockpiles . I slowly start a nice little nest egg, then before i know it. I can see the bottom of the ammo can or the cans get really light.
Buying more 22's this week from another fellow cg'nr. Some low velocity and primer rounds.

The trick is to steadily buy when you see deals and aren't shooting. I'm shooting a lot of 22 LR lately, but buying reloading supplies for 357/38 and 45 when I see deals or free shipping, etc. When I switch over to shooting my pistols more, I'll still be stockpiling 22 LR, and hopefully be then they'll be less scarce.

I started shooting some 22 LR that's over 15 years old lately, and noticed that it seems more consistent than today's ammo. I bet that old stuff would be considered target grade today. I decided to seal that ammo can back up for now. I did shoot off the last of my orange sleeves of CCI MiniMags, since it seemed to shoot almost exactly like the clear sleeves they sell today. Not the best, but pretty darn good ammo, and the fact that their manufacturing consistency didn't drop over a couple decades tells you something.

Saw one of these at my dicks. They mustn't sell much of this camo dip since it's 269. The kryptek 300. Love that stainless fluted barrel. Think I need one now

                        Update,
I cant stand the trigger!!! I had some ebay bucks, and there is a seller "alexg166" who does the same work as bermington smiths. So... off the trigger went. Arrived in his shop wed, and he sent it out on friday. The wait will continue.... Cant wait as i went with the 2 pound trigger.

Now sitting at home bored, i thought about that scope mount.
I had this spare 4x12x40 scope and mounted it to the 10/22. Seems it was too low.

Digging around in the garage today, i found the swift scope i knew i had, it was just misplaced. I think its a little big, but with the old eyes she should hit the 50yard with no problems.

                        Too big?

Not too big in my opinion. Saves you from having to carry a spotting scope when you move the target out to 100 yards, so that's justification right there. You have to protect your back when you get older too! I'm on the fence about getting a Weaver T-30 single power. Fewer lenses, clearer picture.

Most impressive! That is "ahem" a BIG one! Never thought of a 36x40. That is really a nice way to go. I am cheap, and had this laying around. I think this is going to work nicely. And i agree, "no spotting scope required".

Had a typo, meant the Weaver T-36. Ya, it's bigger, but actually weighs less than my 6-18x40, because it's single power, so a lot less glass inside. I figure if I ever build a benchrest rifle, I can move it over to that, but I see them on custom 10/22s and on other rifles at the range, and they don't look out of place on the bench.

Here's an example I saw on a forum:
