I hope the black paint all comes off without damaging the chrome.

I heard that Trap is going to put you to work on the stocks with the lacquer thinner. Be ready for the fumes.

LOL As long as you are outside, you'll be in good shape. Just don't hover over where you are scrubbing and you won't get too lightheaded. I bought a pair of chemical resistant gloves that worked great. I highly recommend getting a pair before you begin your hands will thank you for it.

I have a box heavy duty latex gloves, I use to work with expoxies, urethane water proofing, ect so I try not thrash the hands any more....we use to be so stupid and spray all sorts nasty crap with cheap respirators that I doubt did much...which would explain a few thing lol

That stock is rough, but it has potential with a little elbow grease. You can make it look ten times better. If you need some help, PM me, I'd be glad to help.
Enfield47 has never finished a stock before, so I've been walking him through it with PM's on his P14 project. Sometimes I have to repeat myself, but he's doing a great job so far, and the end result will show it.

Grendl, Your stock has awesome potential. Get some 0 to 000 steel wool and lacquer thinner to really bring out the beauty in your stock. Coat with some BLO and you will have an amazing treasure on your hands. Heck if I can do this, anyone can and you have Trap as your guide.

When we get w55's done, I'll bet he won't be buying projects in pairs again.

I'll get pics of both of them tomorrow, before the paint gets stripped from the metal.

Well a month late I finally got to Trapps and got started.

Trapp took the first one apart and got it torn down. Someone had spray painted black over all the chrome.

Applied a nasty stripper on the metal and blasted with pressure washer, the parts cleaned up nice. Brass brushed the smaller parts. Almost everything is chromed and only a little chrome loss on few parts.

The stock had thick layer of finish, more like several thick layers. Got the bulk of it off and now down to cleaning it up before re finishing.

There is a before picture a few posts up and there is still one left to do a before and after. will be awhile as my work is cruel and dosent take my hobby into consideration

Its funny how someone went a lot of trouble taking these apart and chroming them, then 80% is covered by the wood..then someone strips them and paints flat black over exposed parts?

The bore looked pretty good, and the action much better with years of crud and paint gone!
