Crown is good, nice sharp edges on the riflings, and good looking bore. I do not have a throat gauge. I also realized all of my 30-06 ammo is at the cabin, so no way to show the throat is good. HOWEVER, it is really good.

Dirt, dirt, and more dirt (with some frosting)...

    I'm already wondering if I will De-chrome, or Re-Chrome...hmmmm

I am going to strip the paint and try to restore the stock to original issue.

The chrome is part of history too. And in Trickster's photo, it really stands out.

Wondering....if I have the chrome stripped, should I blue or park the metal? What was the original finish?

I agree. That's why I'm very seriously considering restoring her to a Ceremonial Rifle. However, stock refinish is a MUST! I'm a prior service Marine, and her white (Army) paint job is offensive to me

Here she is with her new family...

Still waiting on her cousin to arrive from CMP, and a possiblly a 1944 K98k depending on the deal.

Based on the research done by Dick Culver, it was "rust blue". (see http://www.odcmp.org/503/rifle.pdf Page 9)

Just picked mine up from the Fedex store. When I get home I have to juggle a crying baby and then get past my wife, who will want to know why, oh why, did I buy another rifle......
Might be latet tonight until I can inspect it.

Honestly, that seems like a worthy project to de-chrome and strip the paint to get it back to the original wood underneath!

I'm more than a little bummed right now. I think I ordered first in this thread and just got my tracking info today indicating a Friday delivery. BUT they shipped to the premises address where no one can sign for the package despite my written instructions to use the mailing address on my license AND in their online system. :-(

I tried changing it on the FedEx website but it says "that option not available." So now I get to take time off work to pick it up from FedEx during their business hours sometime next week.

Oh man, that is a bummer. Try to call FedEx, sometimes they can redirect it if you are speaking to an actual human.

Good luck, and keep us posted. I plan to write a review for Dupage once we are all in possession of our rifles.

So I unpacked the rifle and did a quick once-over. I was surprised to see......the stock is completely original! Not a drop of paint on it. Looks exactly like any other 1917 stock.

The receiver, barrel, and both front and rear sights are chromed. Also the barrel band is chrome. The rifle is an Eddystone with a September 1918 date on the barrel. Flaming bomb on receiver and barrel.

Bolt is dirty but should work nice and smooth once I clean all the crud off. The trigger has moderate travel with a decently light, crisp break.

The bore is filthy, but with visible sharp lands. The lands look uniformly lightly pitted. Grooves are too dirty right now to evaluate. Crown is not visibly worn but also not real sharp. Throat has some visible wear but not as bad as my Jungle Carbine (which is a good shooter). Further bore evaluation will require cleaning.

                            The downside:

The stock is cracked. The crack extends from the top about halfway back from the chamber at a jagged angle to the front of the triggerguard, on the left side. The crack is so skinny I didn't even notice it at first. I can't tell if it goes all the way through the stock or is just a surface crack. Either way it doesn't look too bad to me. I am pretty confident I can keep it from getting any worse.

I didn't have time yet to check numbers or take pics. When I can clean it and get it out to the range I will post a full evaluation.

So far - it seems worth every penny of the $278.

When I first got my tracking email, I clicked on the link which took me to the tracking website. There was a bolded paragraph above the tracking info saying that an adult signature was required and that if I wished I could have the package delivered to a FedEx location and pick it up there.

I clicked on the link and it gave me a whole bunch of choices. I chose a FedEx "print & ship" location a few miles from my house that happened to stay open til 9pm.

I got the email notification that it had been delivered today. Stopped by on my way home from work and picked it up.

I got the feeling that this could've been done at any time during the shipping process, even if I had missed the delivery at my house. It was actually a very easy process...UPS will only hold it at their hub, which is in Bumf**k Egypt and is only open for pickups at like 7 pm.

Grendl, you might try calling Fedex up. I'm willing to bet they can fix this for you.
