You should be fine with your GCA membership, even if you just joined. The CMP works closely with them and if there is a question they can confirm your status.

I received a can of HXP 30-06 from CMP yesterday. The ammo can was in excellent condition and the ammunition inside was in a plastic bag. The rounds were somewhat tarnished but overall in excellent, clean condition. No need whatsoever to clean them or anything, ready for the range.

I finally had a chance to take the two M1D's to the range on Sunday, along with a can of the HXP that I had previously gotten from CMP. As expected, the rifles shot far better than my capabilities and the ammo seemed to perform just fine. I wasn't in a good shooting position since I didn't bring all my crap.

I had scored a Lyman Alaskan off eBay and had that mounted on one rifle, and the scope worked fine as well. I have a repro cheek pad but didn't have it mounted yet, so I used the left hand on the side of the stock to provide the offset.

I can say that these were in great shape, and functioned without a hitch with just an initial cleaning and lube by me, and I shot far too fast and far more rounds than I'm sure either had previously seen in any one session... Nearly went through the full can. I figured I wanted to put them through the paces and see if anything was going to break, and was happy to find that they functioned without a hitch.

Neither one stood out as the 'pick of the litter' so kudos to CMP for the quality of rifles that they are turning out!!!

Still awaiting movement on the Special on order, but my CC is glad to get the break so no panic yet.

I got the Service Grade rifles... They look great, with excellent metal and the stocks have some nice character.

My CMP Service Grade is arriving tomorrow. I did not know they send them overnight but it shipped today and arrives tomorrow. I have to check the dates but the total turn around time was about 1 month.

Is there a reason you went with the D and not the C?

Basically two for one... After consulting with my C&R expert ((Flyin Brian), it made sense to buy two M1D Garands instead of one M1C.

More interested in a shooter rather than a safe queen... Got two shooters out of the deal, and can always dump one down the line.
