So, the main question seems to be if I should order the Springfield Armory service grade for $625, or the HRA service grade for $950. Well, I know which one my wallet votes for...

If I'm spending basically a grand, guess I can consider the HRA CMP Special as well.

I'm definitely leaning towards the $625 version... *grin*

Any UPS store should be able to notarize the app for you. They are open till 1pm, or later, on Saturdays.

The UPS is open on Saturdays. They can notarize the form too. If you opt for the over night delivery you might have a chance at getting your rifle before the new year.

For $650 you get a solid shooter guaranteed to be within the specs for a service grade, everything else is luck of the draw.

For the $950 Service grade special you get a rifle that the metal collector grade, and parts correct, as it came from the factory, except it has new CMP wood and stock hardware.

I found a nice USGI stock for my HRA SGS, and now it's 100% parts correct, but it's kind of a safe queen now. My shooter is a nice service grade HRA with an LMR barrel.

If it was me, and I could afford it I might buy a couple of the Springfield Armory service grades, keep the best one, and sell the others. You will hear varying opinions on that. Some members here think it's not right to sell CMP guns. I've sold a couple to pay for other Garands I've managed to pick up. It's your call.
              Second this.

The $650 Springfield armory service grade is a great deal.

              A lot of low-time 5.8 millions...

...or WWII receivers and Armory replacement low-time Bbls... the best of both worlds.

A lot of USGI wood too.

DBU is an email from CMP's sales department stating that they're actively working on your order and to hold tight. The E-store date is the date that they put a rifle that's been allocated to your order in their "E-store". Once in there, they normally ship it within 2 weeks.

DBU is a user generated abbreviation for "Don't Bother Us". use your CMP account to access order status info through the e-store. it is the actual mercantile side of CMP.

your GCA membership may be problematic. it normally takes them about a month to get around to transmitting your membership info to CMP.

if you haven't already, create a CMP account through e-store. then, referencing your personal info and your CMP account #, forward to CMP customer service the e-mail you got from GCA confirming your membership payment.

Where do I get a CMP account number? There was a space for it on the order form, but I left it blank as the instructions indicated...

assuming you already can get to the CMP site, on the sales page left hand side there is a field for e-store. click on that and you'll see the shopping options and upper right "My Account" click on that and there will be two choices- sign in or create account.

Oh, I created an account at the Estore already...

Under "My Account/Company Info", there is a customer number. Is that the account number that we're talking about?

You should be fine with your GCA membership, even if you just joined. The CMP works closely with them and if there is a question they can confirm your status.
