I think you got what I meant. It seems that people like it better when the rifle is as-is from the CMP. One of my HRAs came with some nasty black tar speckled all down the left side of the stock. I got that gunk off, but had to apply BLO afterwards to even it all out. The difference is noticeable between that and the HRA I just set in the safe because it was nice as is, and this bubba didnt have to touch it. My refinish is my shooter.

So my point was that it's less likely you even need to do anything to CMP wood, retaining that as-shipped value.

Mailed the paperwork for the SA SG yesterday and hopefully I can squeeze in. I have just about a month from them receiving the paperwork to the last day that they will ship to CA without going through FFL which is 12/20.

            Here we go:

            Mailed: 10/15
            DBU: 10/30
Estore: 11/7 (after emailing to update my order from HRA to SA)
            CC: 11/9
            Rifle ship: 11/15
            ETA: 11/18

Rifle serial is 3.6mil. *fingers crossed*

I'd say there is just enough time.

                  That's pretty sporty.

I'd been averaging ~ Three weeks until the last order that came in September...

                  ...Three and a half Months.

So 17 Days is light-speed. Wonder if Orest and Leon are expediting Kalifornastan Orders before the Kaliban assume control of CMP shipments w/in the Soviet Province.

So, I just joined the GCA and I'm finally going to do what I've wanted to do for years and get a Garand.

Apparently thanks to the idiots in Sacramento, I may have to have it shipped to an FFL... oh well, that's not the end of the world as long as I can still get one.

Which brings up the question of what kind I should order... RM1SAS? RM1HRASSP? RM1HRASPECIAL? Then, from skimming this thread, I see folks request all sorts of things via post-it notes...

Sheesh, I'm way out of my league here. I want a good, accurate shooter... collectible would be nice, but that's not my main goal.

Any suggestions or advice for a Garand newb would be appreciated...

Oh, and, any ideas about how long I have to wait after after joining the GCA to place my order?

                    Thanks!

If you want a shooter, go for a service grade - SA or HRA. Both will serve you well, will last a lifetime and probably come with a GI stock. I went with the HRA service grade special, beautiful metal and a new walnut CMP stock and am very happy with it. I have seen some amazing service grades coming out of the CMP this year (as this thread attests to).

Including a sticky note with your request (e.g. request GI wood) can't hurt and they will fulfill your request if they can, it's not a guarantee. They are good to contact you regarding your order if there is a question.

Once you join the GCA, they will transmit your membership info to the CMP so you are GTG. Place your order this weekend, and maybe you can get it before the 1/1/14 date arrives.

One other thing, you will need ammo, enbloc clips, and most likely an op rod spring. The springs are cheap and can be ordered from Garand Gear or Orion 7 - these are top quality springs, don't settle for less. You can get the enbloc clips from the CMP once your account is set up or order from Garand Gear. Since you live in LA, the surplus ammo contains steel so you can't shoot it at most ranges so look for Garand safe ammo from Federal or Prvi Partizan and you will be fine. Save your brass, one day you may want to reload if you don't already. Another option is to buy the ported gas plus from Garand Gear and then you can shoot any type of .30-06 ammo without damaging your op rod.

Well, just to let you guys know, i have sent my fingerprint card to the fbi NICS about 2 weeks ago for the delay i got through cmp.

I read it takes about 3 months or more for them to do all this process.

Sad. I aint getting my m1 garand on time. I was avoiding this thread cause really felt bad and a bit jealous all you gents getting your rifles. Maybe, just maybe i get super lucky, but i have my doubts.

I've only skimmed the form (still at work), but it looks like it has to be notarized?

Assuming I could find a notary open on saturday, and a place to get a money order, should I send it registered return receipt?

There are lots of notaries open on Saturday. Instead of a money order, you can put your credit card info on the form and you'll be good to go.

Guess I'll have to check around for notaries; on the rare occasion I've needed one in the past, I've used AAA...

What about mailing it plain as opposed to registered? Does that make a difference? I used to know of a post office open on Saturday, but they stopped that long ago...
