Why Mosins?

can anyone advise on what to look for or avoid when picking up a mosin from Big 5? Just wanting a fun shooter with decent accuracy.

Mosinator I wound up with mine on accident. Friend said "Here have an M38" its a low SN 91/59. If you ever want to try it, more than welcome to.

Mosins are absolutely the shizzle.

I have an M91/30 and an M38 (carbine version), both open sights with that rear-sight ramp. I have YouTube video of me smacking targets at 500 and 600 yards. Yes, with open sights. 500 yard targets all day long, like nothing,

Took my deputy sheriff friend out recently, found a target 507 yards away, Ramped him up and told him to fire. Soon he was hitting targets at 500 all day too. He was amazed.

I won't even shoot the 91/30 anymore, because if I can hit 600 yard targets with the carbine, who needs a scope or the long version?

Also bought nice-looking cammo synthetic stock for small one and black synthetic for long one.

Plus 7.62x54R is between .308 and 30.06, performance-wise and ammo is 800 rounds for $200.

I hunt a lot and take the carbine deer hunting, wild boar hunting, etc. with full confidence and often take it instead of my 'traditional' hunting rifles.

Others can say what they want, but until they can hit 500 yard targets all day long, it's just noise.

So I have a 1953 M44 (matching stamped #'s) that is in pristine condition... I'm not gonna lie I want to sporterize this gun because it is so fun to shoot. Is this a "good year" or a plain jane that can be "bubba'd"?

...It's NOT a run-of-the-mill Mosin!!!...sounds like it could be Romanian, Hungarian, or maybe even Polish??...post pics if you can...


...but, PLEASE don't ruin that carbine...go buy a cheaper one somewhere and Bubba it!!...

m38's are becoming QUITE RARE!!!...please consider this fact PRIOR to Bubba'ing it by adding a stock that is not original to the carbine!!...just my .02!!...

I will post pictures tonight... If I recall correctly it may be polish.
I will refrain from bubba'ing that rifle, but I almost had more fun with that gun than my brand new AR. So I guess I need another Mosin!

Mint/matching poles are bringing ~$400 now, they aren't common.

Eh I gotta disagree here. An ATI stock isn't a permanent mod, he can put it back to original at any time. I don't see that as bubba since it's reversible.

...if it were me, I would leave that pretty Polish m44 alone...leave it just the way it is!!...they are hard to come by!!...

...get a mixmaster Soviet m38 or m44 that has already been messed with and alter it!...that's just MY opinion, however, it is YOUR carbine!!...

I never got a chance to upload pics because the forum was down... but I will leave her be and keep an eye out for one at Turners or Big 5... or just get my C&R and have it shipped to my front door!
