    Why Mosins?

I am trying to understand why a lot of people likes Mosins...

I am not trying to flame or talk crap about em, but what's the big deal with em? It is price? Cheap ammo?

    Easy to modify?

    Just curious...

They have a huge history spanning many wars, and were used by many countries, including the US.

Soviet 91/30s are still cheap, but many of the other models aren't anymore. Ammo is still relatively cheap though, plus they are a blast to shoot.

The best way for you to discover the answer is to hold and shoot one. They are inexpensive to buy & shoot, rugged and reliable (sticky bolt syndrome included) and have historical significance. Granted they are not for everyone, but I find that I really appreciate them for having technology that has withstood the test of time.

I originally typed everyone... but I know everyone would have been the wrong word. I am thinking of buying one and modifying it for some hunting. Has anyone sporterized one before? Pictures?

I now have 13 of them. In various conditions. Some Tula some Izh some Hex and rounds. All are different and each one is fun to shoot. I think the part I like is just how different each one is. They really show that they where hand built. No two stocks are alike in any way no two rifles are close in any way. Pretty crazy. It is cool to watch the movies that have them in there and we can pluck clays off the last berm at Oroville shoot range with iron sites. It is great to see the faces on the guys that have spent a tn of money on a R 700 and scope only to have a $89.00 mosin with iron sites shoot it off while they miss. Brings tears of joy to me just thinking about it....As a matter of fact I am going to load the truck now and go shooting!!!

Mosins are fun, cheap, and it is pretty cool to shoot a firearm that was most likely saw action in WWII

History, super affordable, cheap and available ammo, full power 30 cal,... what other guns have all those attributes?

It was the apostrophe in Mosins that was bugging me. Plural doesn't need one.

then you realized why you wasted so much money on mosins when you can waste your money on awesome rifles!

Mauser>Mosins any day of the week. If I am going to go I am going to go in style :P

I think folks should just stop buying them and the ammo for them. The price would go way down and I could turn my 6 into 20, lol. The one thing about a mosin is that you can take almost any one, part it out and it will fit any other mosin. Parts are plentiful, ammo is plentiful and the gun boards would be boring without all the threads people starts about them.
