Why Mosins?

think mosins will ever reach Mauser, Garand, 1903 levels as far as pricing?

M38s, M44s, and m91/59s are starting to get there. As far as the refurb 91/30, that I think will depend on what maker/year/condition/unusual markings the given rifle has.

Edit: If the supply of 91/30 imports drys up, the price will naturally rise. The basic 42-43 Izhevsk will still be the cheapest 91/30s, but if no more are coming onto the market, the price will rise.

No I dont think the standard refurb will ever pull a comparative price to a Garand, 1903, or K98. The refurb is the new "kid on the block", those others have already had their day.
I will say though that some of the Big 5 refurbs are worth much more than they ask for them if your lucky and know what to look for.

I assume you meant K98 vs refurb Mosins but...Turk Mausers can still be found for less than $100 whereas MOST Finnish Mosins go for north of $250

Cheap to buy, cheap to shoot, built like a tank, pretty accurate, lots of history. Mine is a hex receiver\laminate stock 91\30 from 1931. Imagine what this rifle has seen and done in that time. Finally, not to expensive to bury in a crate in the woods for TEOTWAWKI

There's one case I can see for Bubba'ing a Mosin, and that's if you do it reversibly. If you take, say, a Boyd's Classic stock, a Jmeck standard scope mount (doesn't require drilling/tapping), and a spare bolt body with a bent bolt handle job, then I see no problem with it. You could make a 1/2 MOA (maybe better with some rifles) firearm out of it with proper bedding in the Boyd's stock, etc. Within a few minutes, you could put the original riflestock and bolt body back on and remove the Jmeck scope mount. Boom, back to original. And since it's 100% reversible, you could safely do this to the Finns and still be OK.

Cheap, plentiful ammo, fairly accurate (some specimens extremely so) and their steel core ammo can penetrate a healthy layer of steel.

Here are my first dozen Mosins representing a half a dozen different countries in several different wars from WWI thru the Cold War!!...

...THIS is why I, personally collect Mosin Nagants...TONS of military history background, fun to shoot, cheap and plentiful ammo...'nuff said!!...

Are all of those rifles in the same condition you bought them in? Pretty clean looking bunch.

All of my Mosins are untouched by me other than standard cleaning and shooting...NO BUBBA'ING allowed at my house!!...

...however, I did "rescue" my m27 from further Bubbafication (it has been lightly sanded and refinished with BLO unfortunately...but...nothing else has been altered on it)...

...so...in terms of why my collection looks clean?, it's because they are clean!!...I chose them based on many factors, and I like the quality of the ones that I have chosen so far!!!...let's face it, quality always sells!!...

Is that so? I know of sources for stripped receivers, magazines, triggers, and bolt assemblies, but what about barrels? Classic Arms is sold-out of those bull-barrels they had, unfortunately for us.

I don't see a problem with a *reversible* Bubba as I described it. However, drilling and tapping an in-tact, still-good-shooting rifle is not something I'd do unless it's like you describe, a FrankenMosin from parts. Now that, I'd drill/tap for a good scope mount, maybe put some good modern sights on it for backup, put a good-quality trigger on it, get Boltman's bent bolt handle, etc. and make that a sub-MOA rifle. Just for fun. :-)

I bought 11 of my Mosins from various GunBoards.com members (some mailed to me, some in FTF meetings)..and the other two from local gunstores or at Big 5...I bought my Swiss 96/11 from another GunBoards member, my Swiss k31 from an old buddy, and my Swedish m96 Mauser from yet another GunBoards member!...

...so...you will plainly see that most of my milsurp buys have been from the Trader on GunBoards.com...or, from private transactions on GunBoards...

I would LOVE to add an m91/59 to my collection!!...

...however, funds are SUPER tight right now!!...

...PLUS, I just NEVER see them out here in CA in the wild!...
