Can't help you dion. On the other topic I own a Hugo and it fires just fine. From all the research I have done on the subject (correct me if I'm wrong anyone) the chrome lined barrel will primarily assist in fighting off the harmfull efects of corrosive ammo. When I bought my Yugoslav I took a bore light and as thoroughly as I could through the cosmoline inspected the barrel for any pitting. Mine turned out to be a very nice shooter and while the weight isn't desirable its not so horrible to dismiss then as they will probably be the cheapest of the sks family you will find.

My step dad has an unissued Russian SMS we bought at the gun show like 15 years ago. Now that is a thing of beauty. Perfect shot groups right out of the packaging.

I'd start by disassembling the bolt and making sure you don't have some crap in the firing pin channel. while you're at it check out the extractor/spring. Do not oil the firing pin or fp channel. It will attract carbon and generally gunk up.

When you cleaned the gas tube, did you disassemble and clean the gas piston extension?(the little spring loaded rod captured behind the gas piston). if the gas tube was crapped up then it probably is too.

        So what did you get?
        Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

          Dion,
I had the same problems when I did a trigger job on my Yugo. Since yours has the murrys kit maybe someone also changed the hammer spring to lighten up the trigger pull. That russian ammo has HARD primers. I also found that my Yugo had a hard time cycling Wolf ammo and after pulling a few bullets I found very inconsistent charge weights which I assume was leading to my stovepipes and FTEs. Brown Bear/Silver Bear ammo gave me zero problems and now I avoid Wolf x39 like the plague.

Back on topic, I bought 2 Romanians last year from Century and they are of much higher quality then my POS heavy yugo. I wish I would have bought 10.

            OK...

I did pull apart the bolt and it looks like the Murray's firing pin is NOT in there. There was some slight brown orange in there and the firing pin didn't move as freely as it should (a little sticky).

Gave it some deep, good cleaning, a light oil and re-install. Now I just have to wait and see - hopefully it doesn't go full auto like the Chinese SKS's are known for.

"hopefully it doesn't go full auto like the Chinese SKS's are known for."

I've been into SKS' for almost 30 years. Had over a dozen various types including a few Chinese and have never had a slam-fire. Even with reloads and soft primers. It's very rare for that to happen and always due to gunked up firing pin issues. Clean the bolt properly and shoot away.

I figured as much, but I did order a Murray's just for peace of mind (even though there is a part of me that thinks it's snake oil).

Thanks! Really looking forward to good shooting with this rifle. Like I said, the rifle really felt like my M1 Carbine, which is my favorite in my safe.

The Murrays kit is probably good if your going to shoot U.S. made ammo. I don't see any reason for it if your only shooting steel cased foreign ammo.
Sounds like you found your problem.

Again, do not oil the firing pin or or channel. It will attract carbon and dirt which can lead to your firing pin sticking and possible slamfire. just run it dry.

Its a shame Samco doesn't ship to CA, they have awesome SKS prices.

I don't think anyone that buys an SKS wants to reach out and touch the moon. I'd get one for home defense, especially because it has a freakin bayonet on it. That is style points.

if i went to war and had to pick a chinese sks a keltec su16 or mini 14

i would take the chinese sks

the one i had was a tack driver and robust

i too had the stuck firing pin problem when i was young it was my fault i fired a bunch of east german ammo with inadequater cleaning and left if for a couple months i took it down and cleaned the channel out man it was like blood comming out of the firing pin hole

i then learned each shooting soak the bolt in hot water then spray it down with wd40 then oil it then put it away

                              no more stuck firing pin

i only sold it cause someone needed it more than me and i have a russian

i still miss it a little it was the best $129 out the door new in the box ever
