I know a few of those guys on the forum.....Most of them are cranky old dudes that think everything is fake unless its in "their" collection. That same gun you bought for 1k, would be on their tables for $2,500.....Originally posted by Josey WalesWinchester Model 94 - FTW!Originally posted by SJgunguy24"Well I guess that's when you have to put on your big boy pants, let your balls drop and find out what's it like to be a man and take some responsibility."Comment

One guy even opined that it was sanded and refinished
You can't even buy a plain-jane 94 carbine for less than $1k nowadays, let alone a clean '92, especially a 25-20 with a shiny bore. And, you're right - this is a $2,000 gun all day long, and twice on Sundays.
Does this looked sanded and refinished, to you?:

Good humor needs truth to be funny...I'm still laughing.
BBM, from what I can see, I wouldn't say "refinished". Educated guess, it's had something applied, and rubbed out, like the majority of them have in the last 100yrs.
More than likely BLO, look close at the dings, and you can see where it "pooled" in the bottom of those, and darkened with age. That's what you did back then to keep the wood nice, ...and sealed. You can fake the red tint of vintage Winchester stocks, but you'll never get the patina of the real red.Comment

Just like trapp said. Probably some oil added. But definitely not refinished. I picked up a 92 carbine in 25-20 not too long ago. Paid 1500. I'll post pics. So - serious answer......
Back when Speer was making the 75gr Hot-Cor flat nosed jacketed bullet for this caliber, it was a "seasonal only" offering. I kept my notifications active, and when Midway sent the notification I bought 1500 of them. Good thing, too.... because Speer never made them again. I have about 1,000 left, but after that......
No one makes the brass anymore, either. I've been lucky enough to find brass on the secondary market here and there, and have about 400 cases. Reforming from 32-20 is possible but the loss rate for me is about 30%, because the brass is so thin at the neck.Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? That's why I asked, I'm hearing this all over for 25/20, and 32/20 as well.No one makes the brass anymore, either. Why don't you stop by when I am home, and say hi?
I'm right on the border of Ada and Gem county, just over the hill from Emmett. Emmett has a decent range too, if you want ot go shoot.
I thought Starline was still making 32-20 brass? I know I've called them a few times to get them to make 25-20 brass, but they steadfastly insist that there is no market. I tried to explain (to no avail) that the SASS crowd and the lever gun silhouette crowd would line up to buy all they made.Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles.
