Made 1898, with 17,677 made that year.Im at a dead end with my Model '97 Trench gun #C 60522. I called Winchester they said it was manufactured in 1898 and couldnt tell me anymore. I beleive it has the original bayonet as well. Just trying to find out the history on it before I start to work on getting it fireable again. Any help would be awsomely appreciated! Thank You!
Contact Bert with Good clear pics of the markings, and overall gun. There wasn't much info on the trench guns, but he can tell at a glance if it's the real thing, or something someone stuck together.
marysdad, here on the forums, with pics of the bayo and markings.Comment

It was made in 1881, with 16,547 made that year.looking for a Gun smith that is in OC or LA that can take a look at my family heirloom. I have a Winchester model 1873 made in 1881. Been in my family for a long time and would like to give it a good one over my be a cleaning. The tag is the only info I have on it.
TRAP55 any more info that you may have would be grate.
The rifle has been completely refinished and collector value destroyed. As a family heirloom, it's still priceless.
It would be a safe bet it's in shooting condition, judging by the effort somebody put into the refinish. The stock was originally an oil finish, side plates were blued, and the receiver was usually color case.
What caliber is it?Comment

Well I was never going to Sell it anyways. I can take some better photos if that helps out at all. It is worth more to me and my family to-stay as a family heirloom. I my wont to shoot it now that I Know what I have. The bore and rifling look good no real pitting or wearing. Caliber is is unknown I need to find that out. It is not marked anywhere I can see. Non of my family was ever allowed to shoot it. Also have two colt revolvers and some stage coach shot guns to get looked at and a WW-1 Luger from my grate-grate grandfather. It was made in 1881, with 16,547 made that year.

Receiver dates very early 1909, and the stock group dates late 1902.Comment

Glamis, they were only made in 4 calibers, .22RF, .32-20, .38-40, and .44-40. .32-20 bore will measure .312, .38-40 measures .401, and the .44-40 is about .429. Some of the brass lifter blocks were marked, most were not.Well I was never going to Sell it anyways. I can take some better photos if that helps out at all.
