Definitely a service grade, recently got mine and it’s in great condition, has a new stock which has caused an issue with opening the trigger guard and the trigger weight being too high, but the CMP will send a label for repairing any issues with the gun (luckily in my case it is just a stock issue that needs shaving down). They are really great to deal with which is why I recommend them.

Eventually I want to buy an original stock, but that’s for another time .

I sent off for and ordered 2 of them a couple days before Christmas. Anxiously awaiting my card to be charged so I can get my grubby little hands on them.

Yes, best C&R Deal available today plus fun shooters and effective self defense rifle if needed. Ammo easy to find and there’s always reloading.

        Agree SG way to go.

I understand wanting to have a "factory condition" rifle, they are rare. But, a rifle made in '42 or '43 that made it through the war in its original condition probably spent all that time in a storage locker, likely stateside.

I have a few CMP rifles, and they are mixed parts and I will never know the history of them, but I know there were used somewhere (one in Greece, that part I do know).

#25, California Deplorable, CORRECT ! My uncle Ed on Guadacanal, Saipan and Guam, cut japanese throats trying to crawl into his foxhole twice during the battle of Bloody Ridge trying to take back the airfield. Uncle Bud, my namesake in the Navy in the Pacific also, it was not what so many see about it now.

I don't have a CMP rifle but have a rifle sold by the old Federal Ordnance back in 1984. Likely a parts rifle, shoots good enuff to take a few deer with it '84 thru '95. It goes to # 2 grandson down the road.

Buy one, just get one !

Bought a Service Grade Remington M1903 in 2001 for $400.00. Nice gun, horrible sights. Bought a Service Grade Garand in '06 or '07, like $600.00 or something, can't remember at this point. Got a M1917 from a friend a few years later, in pretty good condition, probably service grade if I had to guess. Got a Carbine as soon as they became available. Carbines are a hoot. finally got a CMP M1911 when they became available, I was in the first batch. Nice gun, looks to be all correct parts, but I'm no expert, so I could be wrong on this. Again, it's in really nice condition.

I also got a Mossberg M44 .22 rifle, it's super accurate, and cost me $125.00. Had to spend another $35.00 on a magazine, but it's a really nice shooting rifle.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy from CMP. The prices are good, and the guns are generally better than advertised. It was easier when they just shipped them to your door, the 1911 process was particularly painful, but everything gun related is painful in California.

I have ordered four service grade Garands from CMP. All have been truly amazing, far exceeding my expectations. Maybe I have just been lucky.

I bought a M44 from the CMP and gave it to my brother for his birthday. It is a beautiful rifle and I kick myself for not buying another for myself. I believe it was $75 + shipping. (he bought an extra magazine and replacement trigger guard since the old plastic ones were very brittle).

I had heard the plastic trigger guards were brittle, so I bought a spare. It sits in my spare parts bin, never used. The original has held up well.

Only issue I had was the firing pin would not always cock reliably. Bought a new one and fit it (a lot of fitting required, what a pain). The new firing pin was like $18.00 or something like that, so not a big deal. It's a very cool gun.

Order the best one you can afford.
My last one was a fluke. They lost my order when I called about it the apologized profusely and that day sent me a fresh unfired Letterkenney arsenal rebuild Springfield.

Yeah they had a special deal of $75, so I bought 5, I'm down to the last 2,
One original in mint condition the other was rebuilt at Crane and reserialized
                          for some reason.

Also did most of my Garand CMP buying before they started the grading system (had 30 Garands at one time, the herd has been culled though) only the last few (3) were under the grading system delivered the same day. I cleaned up 2, one 5.0mil SA had a TE & ME of <1 and nice birch wood. The one I left boxed and forgot about it for a year turned out to be an ALL HRA with packing grease inside the action, and an SA bolt? Still has the grease remains unfired by me for almost 20 years!

I've still have USGI wood "just in case I get the itch to buy" and get new CMP wood. WHY don't they just offer woodless like they used to? Did that when they did offer them and put spare wood on them.

Guy I know just got 8 Service Grades. All excellent condition. Great ME and TE numbers, but only one had Cartouched stock. Other guys I know went to South Store and each got 8 in December. Excellent selection.

I got a HRA 5.69M from one of them just above cost and he was nice enough to swap HRA parts off another one he had to make mine as correct as possible. Bolt and barrel were already correct. Turned out I had a cartouched HRA stock and I found a complete trigger group on Gunbroker and HRA small letter gas screw on eBay. So now it will be 100% and I have the milled SA trigger group to sell to offset the one I purchased, eBay bucks paid for gas screw.

Now is a great time to be ordering Garands from CMP. One that another guy I know ordered that he paid $750 for he put on Gunbroker and got $2600 and it wasn't close to original. Crazy to buy anywhere but CMP.

I'm green with envy. I really enjoyed shooting the M44 with my brother (he moved to Alaska now, so a bit difficult). I may have to dig deep and buy one at the prices that are going for now

                                Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.
