This one is a Six-Digit (Spring '42) w/ a '44 replacement Bbl. that gauges ME=1 TE=3.
Your M1 is the sweet spot for me. Exactly what I look for. Personally I want a rifle with all period parts and stock. I have other rifles if I want to shoot for more accuracy.Comment

I tell of my experience but that was back in 2010 when I could still have it shipped to my front door.
I ordered 3 service grades with the intention of giving one to my WWII veteran father and one to my korean veteran father in law. All three are 50's vintage rifles.
What I got where three service grade Springfields.
1) all original and correct except for the trigger group.
2) all original and correct correct except for trigger group and stock
3) Mix master of parts
The end result is I swapped one of the tigger groups between #1 and #3 to get a correct early 50's springfield. That is the one that I kept for myself. The other two brought hugh smiles to the recipients face

I would order the service grade. You have a 50/50 shot of getting a original stock on the. The new cmp stock is nice to though. I have received two service grades from cmp in the last few months and they were in great condition. You'll probably get a springfield. You can also order a IHC service grade right now. I was definitely thankful i was able to get one before theyre gone. Even got lucky and got a WIN-13 recently. Currently have a few more service grades on order, hoping to get at least ine HRA to round out the garand collection. You wont be disappointed if you get a service grade.Comment

Bahahaha!!! This is the some of the silliest nonsense I've ever heard. Oh no! A "mixmaster"! The horror! The metal doesnt match! Wah wah wah.
Newbs dont realize these rifles are military surplus rifles. Most of them were rebuilt multiple times. That is completely NORMAL and to be EXPECTED. There is nothing at all wrong with a "mixmaster". A USGI surplus rifle is a USGI rifle. Im sorry the armorers that maintained these weapons so that they could be used by our brave service members werent thinking of all the collectors that might end up with a "mixmaster". I guess GI Joe hitting the beach at Omaha had bigger worries than making sure he kept his rifle in original mint condition so some sorry fool 70 years later wouldnt get their panties in a bunch. Talk about first world problems.
You may have heard of this big war many years ago called World War Two? I heard it was really really big, like as big as the World. Apparently many of these CMP rifles were produced specifically to be used in that war. Go figure. Huh.
Every modern day American should feel honored to possess a USGI M1 Garand regardless of its condition. Show a little respect for history people. WWII wasnt just a phucking video game.Last edited by Tere_Hanges; 11-08-2020, 6:17 PM.CRPA and NRA member.
Note that those who have repeatedly expressed enough vile and incoherent content as to render your views irrelevant, have been placed on my ignore list. $750 for an M1 is a steal. Look at how much they're selling on the secondary market, nearly twice that. Looking back, I don't think you'll ever kick yourself for spending the "premium" on a rifle whose condition is a little better than rack grade. In a couple years we'll be lucky if the CMP has any inventory left whatsoever."Let him that is without stone among you cast the first thing he can lay his hands on." -Robert FrostComment

If they would guarantee that it would come with original GI wood I would order one. I’ve tried the trick of putting a note on the form requesting it, and they still sent new stocks. Looked like a new gun cosmetically which was not what I wanted.Comment

Assuming you want a shooter, and NOT a wallhanger, get the special grade, OR...
Get the service grade, get the metalwork cerakoted, and put a new stock on it.
That's what I'D do.sigpicComment

Service grade.
I think it is a mistake if you don't order more than one. These are great rifles, you know what you are getting is legit USGI, and when they are gone they will be $1500+ for your $650 Field Grades second hand. Look at the M1 Carbines, they were $400-500 from CMP, and now they are $1200+ for a rough one.For Sale: Off Roster Handgun Moving Sale
