drilled a couple of holes and grinded down some plastic on the top so it will mount flush. used the original backing plates. Don't know about the handguard getting hot. i just built this upper and have not fired it yet.Comment

Thanks, I really like the smaller diameter of the Troy stuff, but my next gun will be for my girlfriend (who also prefers the smaller diameter forend... uh, on guns, let me be specific there..), but she's a lady and not quite as heat tolerant as I am, so if anyone can give me some insight on how quickly those things heat up during casual range shooting, I'd be appreciative.sigpic I like to post side views of the guns, if you wanna see what they look like from the front, just come on over and let yourself in...

For casual range shooting, you'll have no problem at all. Lots of guys run these handguards for 3-gun matches. Complaints I've seen tend to come from guys running them for carbine courses/etc shooting 800+ rounds/day.Thanks, I really like the smaller diameter of the Troy stuff, but my next gun will be for my girlfriend (who also prefers the smaller diameter forend... uh, on guns, let me be specific there..), but she's a lady and not quite as heat tolerant as I am, so if anyone can give me some insight on how quickly those things heat up during casual range shooting, I'd be appreciative.Comment

those are some awesome ar 15s...ill add a before and after of mine....M&P15 sport super cheap gun....but im gonna give it some bang for the buck...sometime when i get cash ima get a full new upper for it though....the fact that it has no dust cover or foward assist really bothers me....mainly cause i didnt know that when i bought it through ordering it off some gunshops website...but its all good...i already got a bunch of parts like od green picatinny(spelling...sorry ive only been really into guns for not even a year yet) forend a slanted type...ugh sort of kinda like a vertical grip(u prob don know what im talking about but i used it once and it was mad accurate) a sure fire flashlight...and an OD green collapsable california legal of course buttstock and all that good stuff...so itll be a pretty good fun gun for shootin targets and running fun little drills in the desert with but i definantly wouldnt trust it in the mud dirt and sand...it may end up being more reliable than i think it is...maybe i should put it to the test....just something about throwing dirt and **** all over the gun i just bought for 750 bucks out the door does not seem fun...if anybody has a link to an M&P Sport torture test please lemme knowComment

and yes its the california compliant one with the longer barrel and the bullet button...although being military im allound to own guns and magazines from other states...so long as i was stationed there....got i wish i had known that when i was in virginia...ida bought me a arsenal AK47 clone and a couple 75 round drum mags...shot one of those when i was there...they are one of the more pro 2nd amd. states and i love....by the way for those of you who never got to shoot an semi auto fed legal AKM with a 75 rnd mag it chambers the 7.62 by 39 which is twice as heavy as the 5.56 nato...yeah it was a heavy gun fully loaded...however i woulda had to keep the reciepts with the gun when a cali cop would find me in the desert and rather than actually looking up where the weapon is registers take me in and possibly make me UA to the boat the next day cause hes gonna try and pin me with some sort of felony....****s hittin the fan man...lovethis country and will always support my home through thick and thin but COME ON! i want whats best for my country and whatever happens i know my 2nd ammendment right is best for it and im willing to defend that....cause if they outlaw weapons the next step is communism...and i dont think any true american wants thatLast edited by GM3 USN; 08-13-2011, 8:36 AM.Comment

1 new, 2 old.
The SIG: Was going to get Ironwood to make a retro wood butt, bit for $300 LESS, this slick AR stock adapter is way cooler.
Bush 6500 Elite, 1-8 on an ADI. Ace stpck, Ruger FH. I will wholeheartedly suggest, that this gun is the best option for non-AR platform. Kalashnikov rugged by design, Swiss finesse in the execution.

The one that plays 3-gun with me, in his Tac Optic config: Also with a BL6500 1-8. PRI 15" front, Lilja bbl Jerry's brake, gold trigger.

Finally got this together in its final form. I had to make the front end to look right with this barrel. And make sure the barrel's weight savings were not squandered on a shoddy forearm assy. This barrel nut and carbon fiber forearm assembly are not availlable in stores. BBl finishes at 16.1 with that mini carlson brake perm attached. LP prismatic red dot. 5 pounds sans optics. This carbine balances perfectly right on the trigger guard. Perfect 50/50 weight distribution between your hands. Moving this gun to the target is not instinctive- it's telepathic

Wow, you posted some great looking rifles. That 5lbs-er must be great to shoot. I recently pieced one together too. It weights 4lbs and 14oz. minus optics, but it is mostly made of plastic/carbon parts.
How does your circular fluted barrel acts after a couple mag dumps? My DD lightweight pencil barrel heats up pretty fast, and starts smoking after one 30 round mag drop."We are not human beings having a spiritual experience; we are spiritual beings having a human experience." - Pierre Teilhard de Chardin.Comment
