Posted this in the AR Gallery, but it's still an auto-loader and 223/5.56 caliber, so I guess it belongs in here too.

Is that a Specter OS4x? Not to ding your build, but I'm just really hoping that isn't a backup RDS on top of a 1x/4x optic. :P

mrds on top of Elcan Specter DR.

Yes in matter of fact it is. I find that during speed drills it might be overkill but I can leave my Elcan at 4X and acquire closer targets through the MRDS. No need to adjust cheek wield just go from one eye (downrange) to both eyes open. I just trained with it that way.
The military has it set up this way also. Will someone with more experience and knowledge explain the thought behind it?

The back up optic on top of primary optic was a older concept with the ACOGS. While it works when you train that way it is far from ideal. It requires more of a chin weld and you can not see the red dot (especially one that small) in a pinch with a crappy cheeckweld especially in far from ideal positions like urban prone(like I said you need a chin weld for that) a offset RDS is a far better choice for engaging quickly at CQB ranges. One thing to think about is with that optic if you need the 4x chances are you have time to flip the lever. It kind of takes away the greatness of that elcan. That optic was made to be able to keep up with the flurry of large window cqb optics and offer a true 1x and with a flip of a lever be able to provide good magnification/clear class. If your going to run it that way to be honest you could have saved some money with a low powered scope/offset RDS or a ACOG with a RDS mounted on top like you did. It is a VERY nice build nonetheless. Train the way you fight but I would take the RDS off and run that optic like it was built for or offset mount the RDS. Thats my opinion fake it for what it's worth.
