Been using them for (20) yrs., 2 miles from the beach, no rust issues at all.
Cheap too. Buy direct. They even do custom work at great prices.

Are there any reasons whatsoever left for anyone to buy Remington?

Yes, because if you want a decent rifle you'll need to pay double, and if you want a good rifle, double that, and so on. You can't turn feces into gold.

Lol I really don't need it. I don't plan on doing anything with that stock. I should throw it away.

So I understand it, you shoot the rifle, don't clean it after and store for 3 months, and you wonder why it has rust, and then blame Remington. Are you a newb?

FYI, smokeless powder fouling, and non corrosive primer residue when not clean attracts moisture and grows rust.

I hope you don't store in zipped gun cases or fire safes that are not aired out frequently.

I guess metallurgy and craftsmanship have been moving backwards in the firearms world. I have a number of 50-75 year old rifles that I shoot often in different types of weather, always outside, and I never get any rust. Even the corrosive ammo isn't an issue as long as the weapon is cleaned in a timely fashion.

Get a jar of RIG brand grease. RIG = rust inhibiting grease. Wipe a coat on and then wipe most of it off and it won't rust. I've hunted Alaska in the rain and the only parts of my guns that rusted were the places I missed. I've used for years, great stuff!

I left mine dirty far longer then that and no rust.

Get one of those new plastic Magpul stocks and some cheapo plastic PMags. Plastic is less reactive.

Do the SPS Tacticals have a different finish than the 700P/LTRs? My LTR has had no rust issues... I applied frog lube and wiped it off when I got it, and handle it all the time without ever having cleaned or reapplied any oil to the exterior. When I lived 50yds from the beach, frog lube was the only thing I ever found that could prevent rust on my Mosin and Mossberg, so I would give that a try. It's also a great lube for anything but very tightly fitted semi-auto pistol rails (IMO).

BTW, my LTR in .308 shot 3/4 MOA 5-shot groups at 100yds right out of the box with factory loaded 168gr FGMM (shooting off a bipod, not benched), and I'm a very novice rifle shooter (hadn't shot one in about 7-8 years except for one Appleseed event two months ago with an AR with iron sights), so I suspect the rifle is capable of better. Just wanted to point out that when things go wrong people are quick to rant all over the internet, but when people are happy with their purchase they often don't share it. Maybe I just got lucky, but I'm happy with my 700.

part of the reason i chose a Remington 870P over a new Express was because of the parkerizing of the 870P; the issue of rust problems with the newer 870 Express is well known and i'm not surprised you're having this problem with another Remington gun.

i assume that the finish on your Remington is an applied finish that is not very effective in protecting the gun's metal. consider parkerizing; it is durable and it's porous surface will retain oil that is applied to protect the gun's metal.

i run a GoldenRod inside the safe; hook it up and no maintenance required.

I'm guilty of that. Waaay back before I knew any better. Kept the 870 in a nylon zippered case for about 3 or 4 months. Surface rust all over the damned thing. That's the only time that rust has ever been an issue on any of my Remingtons.
