    Because they said so.
While YOU might be capable of drifting two pins out and watching out that you don't lose a spring or break off the safety lever, everyone else is not.
Therefore, if EVERYONE can't safely do it, Remington is not going to allow ANYONE to do it as REMINGTON is the one who is liable for the job being done right...

There are people who cant change their own flat tire or check their own oil.
Would you want that type of person working on their own gun?

I was really hoping to buy one of the Long Range 700s in .30-06 this summer but I doubt it will happen with the recall. No one has gotten any word on when the 700s will show up at stores again.

It is mostly in part a liability issue. If the trigger assembly is put back together wrong and there is a undesired discharge, they don't want another lawsuit in their hands.

There are Remington 700's in Turner's Outdoorsman stores last I checked. Two on the shelf at the Orange location.

I saw that. It's strange because I've called Turners, Bass Pro and Ammo Bros yet none of them had any time frame to get 700s back on the shelves.

I just got back from a hunt in Wyoming where I experienced an involuntary discharge upon closing my bolt only. Did some research and learned of the recall which affects my rifle/trigger. I posted because there doesn't seem to be to many first hand account posted anywhere.
I called Remington and I'm planning to take my rifle to a local (2hrs away) authorized smith to make the repair, get the parts that get stamped stamped, and then switch to an after market trigger.
I had about a 1000 rounds through my 700 with no issues. After the incident, I manipulated the bolt for hours and couldn't recreate the problem. I then shot about 20 rounds through it and it works properly. IMO I don't think it's a bonding agent issue (unless a piece breaks off and jams something temporarily.) I'll never trust this trigger again.

With out the bolt???? ...details please.

The kind lady just asked for the trigger, no rifle, no bolt, just the trigger in a padded envelope.

I have three R700's that need to be sent in. I will be sending in the first on Monday.
