There was a recall on all Remington 700's today, Apr. 10, 2014. They were called to remove all Remington 700's off the shelves and return all of them, including firearms on layaway. I was wondering what the recall was for and if anyone had more information on it.

April 1st = April fools. A recall of the 700 would be HUGE industry news, I haven't heard of anything. The only "recall" is a safety modification program on pre 1982 700's http://www.remington.com/pages/news-...odel-40-X.aspxComment

I work in a store that sells firearms and my managers told me to take all the Remington 700's off the shelf and package all of them to send back including layaways. I know this isn't just my store that is doing this as it also appears Sportsman Warehouse also is doing this after my own searches. I'll try to ask my managers of the reason today and post an update during my lunch break. You are all welcome to check Bass Pro Shops, Sportsman Warehouse, or Turner's, I am fairly certain they will also have all their 700's boxed up.Last edited by Dattebayo; 04-11-2014, 10:46 AM.

I cannot find anything on this except what was mentioned above about pre 1982 locking mechanisms. This should be huge news if real.Comment

I was thinking the same thing. I was looking for information about it because the managers didn't give the employees any reason aside from having to do this. The only report I saw of this aside from my own is on a Marlin Forum. This is why I was searching for more information here.

I just found a thread on that forum you mentioned. It goes back years with claims of supposed firing when switching off safety. Find out who your manager heard this from.Comment

No mention of any 700-series recall since 2002.Comment

I actually find this interesting because isn't the issue they're describing the same one that the news special was about that everyone called bogus on the older models?NRA Life Member
