357 Lever choice

The new Ruger/Marlin is MSRP'ing at that insane price, while the Henry "All Weather" is MSRP'ing at $1198. Both .45-70, both look very similar. The Henry appears to be a bit slimmer. Buyer can make up their minds. Remember, these are Rugers, NOT Marlins. I really don't get the Henry bashing by some.

One difference between Henry and Marlin. The Henry is not actually stainless steel. It's a hard chrome finish. They say it's better, but I don't know.
Also, the Henry All Weather has coated wood instead of the laminated wood.
So, for $200, you get stainless steel and better looking furniture. Decide if that's worthwhile.

Hard chrome is a lot easier to keep clean. I'd like to know how the receivers are made and finished on the Henry.

A couple things I’ll say I like about my Big Boy, the receiver is full like an 1895, and I can take the ammo out of the tube by unscrewing the front cap. Best of both worlds in my opinion. I have Marlins and I have Henrys. Love them both for different reasons.

IME, loading through the tube is a huge plus for me, especially at the range/desert, offering both is the best of both worlds for Henry. It doesn't take very long for my fingers to start hurting using a side gate. It's just so much easier for me to load through the tube.

I agree Mark. No problems loading/unloading thru the tube. People with 39A's, Win 9422's, Marlin 60 and Browning .22 lever. I NEVER hear shooters complaining about this loading/unloading. Same with Henry rimfires. But, hold on to your hats if it's a Henry centerfire. Nobody chasing me in the desert, so, tube fed lever guns are fine with me. Don't like them, don't buy them. Simple.

I hear ya brother. This is why Henry has a big plus for me. I don't know how long they will continue to offer both and I really don't see a reason to change. They could improve the mag tube lockup a little more.

My fence has always leaned over the mag tube side. My 10/22. shoots good but I just can't stand the mags (when I remember to bring em) they tear up my fingers worse then a gate fed levergun.

I have the Browning 92 in .357. It is a sweet rifle and well made. It is a bit pricey now, but if you can find one scoop it up! I have friends who have the 1873 Italian clones and they are quality as well. I like the ones by Taylor & Co.

I prefer the tube loading of my Henry 357 over the side gate. Faster, easier on the thumb. Henry's also eject to the side rather than off the top, I like that.

A lot of guys I know use a hot glue stick as a loading device for gate loading lever guns. That being said, I've never had any issues loading any of my rifles by hand. 30-30, 38-55, etc....... easy-peasy and no stress on the hand or thumb.

No, you use another round to push in the last round or a glue stick.

I have arthritis, it really only bothers me loading .38/.357.. the longer, larger rounds don't hurt so much.
