Mojave Lever Crew - Roll Call!

Even when what I said earlier remains true (that if done with any possible subtlety), if it's the very first one we ever saw on the internet, made by Mossberg, then, yeah. That was a shock. It was as if the unfortunate carbine had been disfigured in a horrible accident or something...
It was a transmogrification of all that is beautiful and true.

^ ^ ^ amirite?
I've got to load up some .30-30. I hope to be shooting with my son in the next week or two...
Too, there is much plated-bullet .41 Magnum I have to yank the bullets from (their "speed limit" will be exceeded in my 1894FG's 20" barrel, but just) in order to inspect the powder levels for consistency (LAX "Factory New" .41 Mag), then seat and crimp some Hornady XTP. These are ejected from the muzzle at just over 1250 fps...
But I won't get to the .41 today.
Figure I'll bring along 3 long guns and three hand cannon.

Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!

Once again the OG MLC meets up on a perfect day in the Mojave. It was T-shirt weather by 9am.
Chris getting the 39a ready.
A little Henry 22 action going on
It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

Mark, it was indeed a perfect day. 74F, zero wind and nobody around! I didn't do a lot of shooting, as the Win 94/30-30 and CZ 452 Scout were good out of the gate. The Pietta, well, I just have to learn how to shoot a damn single action better! We all shot pretty good. Do like that newish Vaquero Chris has.
Can't wait to do it again.

Holy Toledo! Ohio! THAT IS LOVELY.
Hear ye! Yes, it was a great day. Love these last-minute get-togethers. You fellers is hard to pin down! dagnabbit.
We convened on the day for the reason of January 6th, if that rings a bell. Some protesters remain behind bars sans due process! and we went to go ring the steel of Freedom in their honor.
I gotta remember to take more photos (though I'm still having photo-hosting issues using calguns). I brought four long guns and six handguns. That looks like my FG (sling swivels) resting on/in the Tipton Gun Butler, there.
After you two left at 3:00 PM I had another pleasant two hours futzin' around. Shot more "heavy" .44 Special from my 5-1/2" flat top, more .45 Auto, and a lot more SV from my 39A.
There was that abandoned fire extinguisher about 35 yards off to our left, stuck in that berm over there, that I was ringing with almost boring regularity, offhand. That's almost! Minute Of Kentucky squirrel, there. Almost. The XS ghost ring irons make it easy, and you guys make shooting in the Mojave easy, too.

lmao. The mechanical malfunction of that piece is baffling... hope it gets figured out. If we had more time I would have busted out my kit and performed surgery. We would have gotten to the bottom of it.
Wait, what? You fixed it? What was rubbing on things that didn't want rubbin' on?
ON THE OTHER HAND...
I seem to be willing -and- able to perform any number of attempts to mess up an otherwise creampuff of a carbine...
I'll get out to the "shop" later and measure to see if there's *one*, or "two* squblicious, low-velocity slugs in the bore of my 336 Texan .30-30...
That rifle is kinda high-performance in that it just does not like any of my attempts at building reduced-recoil plinkin' rounds. Bob? are you listening? Bob was there for it's first squib (and the only squib I'd ever encountered, ever)... Although to be fair I am successful in that very endeavor using 235 grainers to build reduced-velocity loads for my Mark X .375 H&H... "successful", in that those loads actually work.
Again, speaking of that gorgeous! maple stock... is that SA-22 home? omg that's amazing. Makes ya wanna turn right around and drive another 2.5 hours to get there and then three! to get home (the long way, avoiding the armpit of L.A.).
That furniture is a winner. Just maple-icious!.

I thought we agreed not to bring up the 30-30?
FWIW, I think 2AZone set a record on doing my DROS this morning. It was under 10 minutes..closer to 7 and the gentleman was tag teaming 2 of us at a time.
Tom, how 'bout that 180gr RNFP coated bullet with 2400 powder (11.1 - 11.5gr) out of a .357 lever gun?
I tell ya, I think we have a winner there. The Rifletom load for sure.Last edited by golfish; 01-07-2022, 12:58 PM.It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

Yeah, that 2400/180 load out of .357 lever gun is BOSS! Might be a bit sporty in a revolver. May have to try that next time out.

While not the Mojave, (bout 10 miles west or so), Nichole, the only female member of the MLC to my knowledge, got Bertie out for some plinking.
