100 pieces of 45-70 brass is enough.
They make shell cases that hold 10-20 rounds which are perfect for field carry.

You can most likely endure 100 rounds of a "Trapdoor"-level load using a 405 grain slug (+/-1300 fps from 24")... but your shoulder may not enjoy the perceived recoil of 100 hunting loads.

What are the specs on this particular round you're looking at?

300 GR. RNFP is all I know. Velocity data is not listed.

I have some handloads with 350 gr RNFP coated bullets I made up that recoil pretty substantially - I do not shoot more than a few off the bench. Offhand would be so bad, perhaps. It is not a max load but is listed as one for new Marlins and a couple other rifles only. Definitely not a trap-door load. Most of my handloads are at the low end of Marlin load data.

I would recommend hitting the books (reloading manuals). Most outfits have load data on-line that you can research for no cost (Hodgden, Speer, Nosler, Hornady, etc.). They will have both loads (soft for trap door rifles up to ka-blammers for the strong 1886 type actions).

                GREAT looking rifle!

I already browsed my Lyman manual and there are three different load categories: Trapdoor, 1886/1895 & Ruger #1/bolt action.

Quick research shows Henry confirms the action to be suitable for any load designed to fire through an 1895 action.

Got a call last night from some old friends that wanted to go dove hunting today. I told them that 90+ percent of the doves in my area had left a few days ago, so why would I want to drive a few hours just to find out that there weren't any birds.

Long story short, I let them talk me into it and I was about as wrong as you can get. I guess it's better to be lucky than it is to be good.

My day was compete by 8:30 am.

I have everything in order except for a place to go...

Wish I could but I’m ill prepared with having to work this week.

Last year I went to the upland game hunting area by Lake Perris. Hiked about 8 miles and got 3 birds. My feet were destroyed, but I didn’t have to drive 8 hours and pay for a hotel!

It takes a lot of balls to play golf the way I do.

If you are into hunting any big-game here in North America (and many other places), those mid-range loads should work very well. The correct bullet, placed in the correct spot, works!
There is some allure to large, straight-walled cartridges; the .45-70 certainly does that.
